Default Timing in regards to Air/Fuel ratio

I was told bumping up timing via distributor will cause the car to run more rich.
Is this true? If so can someone explain why? I'm trying to understand.
Thanks!

I fail to see how advancing the timing will cause the computer to dump more fuel.

The only way I could see it even remotely doing that, is if the more advanced timing cause less of the fuel to burn completely.

That should theoretically cause the computer to lean the mixture all else being equal.

Makes since. A local "tuner" shop told me that, and I didn't understand why. And they couldn't explain it...
