pretty much the rule on nitrous is A) don't use it under 3k rpms, and B) only use it under wide open throttle..

physically nitrous works like all FI systems by stuffing (forcefeeding) more air into the combustion chamber...more air + more fuel = bigger bang/more power

With that high of a milage engine, you may want ot get it fully inspected first, and if you do decide to go with N2O, then get a wet system, it is safer and much easier on your engine than the typical dry system. Also, if you internals are stock, I don't recommend oing above a 50 shot.

What kind of car do you have, is it worth throwing NOS in it? Sometimes, some cars should just be left alone... too much problems. My buddy had an accord w/nos and it barely did anything. It was 50 shot, but not enough to push it. I have seen good and bad, do what DRAG said and make sure you are WOT or else you will bend the butterfly on your TB. Also, maybe look into RPM switch which will start/end the nos at certain RPM's, much safer. Oh yeah, maybe consider going "full throttle (swith) rather then a trigger. 150K...hmmm I don't know about that one.
