engine troubles, please help
i've been having troubles for the past few months with a jumping tachometer, and from what i've researched i think it has something to do with the ignitor, maybe just the ignitor coil. but other than the jumping tach, i really haven't noticed any problems... until yesterday. i was pulling to a stop light and the car just died. i've had a distributor go out on me before and it didn't feel "clunky" when i tried to start up the car it actually sounded smooth, the car just wouldn't start up. 2 hours later when the tow truck showed up the damn car actually started up and i just had the guy take it to my repair shop anyways. the repair shop looked at it today and was stumped because because it would intermitantly start up for them, but they can't narrow it down and don't want to simply replace the ignitor hoping that it will solve the problem, they mentioned that it could be something related to the ecu... but they still wanna look into it again tomorrow. my question is does anyone know what the problem might be? any and every possibility would help out a great deal, because i want to get it fixed, and fixed the right way the first time.... sorry this was long, and thanks for any help.
