Royal Purple motor and gear oil?
is this good stuff? i got a dohc zc and i want to know if this **** will be good. how about my tranny? stock dx. royal purple = good ****?
My engine builder down here in S. Florida swears by it, I personally never had any problems with it, except for the price. After awhile I got a lil' cheap and started using Mobil-1. Which seems to be a popular choice here on H-T. Dunno bout the tranny fluid though...
search. u would find a dozen topics about this.
cliffnotes-mobil1 sux. burns too fast. royal purple is cool i guess. never tried it. honda mtf in trans only. 10w40 if u cant get any honda mtf soon enough, but honda mtf is what the trans was designed to use. gm syncromesh is a last resort to save synchros.

Royal Purple... using 5w30 in my B16A and it quieted the valvetrain noise down and the car runs smoother and stronger with this oil rather than the 5w30 dino oil I was using.

I'm gonna give the syncromesh a shot. My 2nd gear used to grind, then it went away. WTF? I haven't changed the fluid since I bought the car (3500 miles ago) but I dont want that grind to come back so syncromesh it is.
Also, does anybody notice a difference in feel with different fluids while shifting?

An LS tranny that i had would grind going into third at about 4500 RPM and higher when shifting somewhat fast. When i put GM synchromesh in, the trans would still grind goin into third but not until 7000 rpm and after, also while shifting somewhat fast. I guess it all depends on how worn your synchros are.

Interesting.
Did you notice any smoother or more precise shifting?

Synchromesh isn't just a last resort to save them......it's great to put in when they are still fine, so they never get to that point.(Depending on how hard you shift/ how much you can't drive, no fluid will save them) That **** is da bomb though, I've half my town rocking Synchromesh and they love it. **** 70w-90 Purple fluid, thats wayyyy too thick anyways. The beauty of the GM chit is how thin it is yet effective. As far as motor oil, just use non-synthetic Quaker State, viscosity of your choice. I personally use 5w-30. As a matter of fact that is what Honda dealers/owner's manuals say to use. According to my Honda parts guy, Quaker State is what helps Hondas get into the "200k+ mileage club" that Honda dealers have.

Oh yes. Overall shifting felt much better than before. So yes it is worth running GM synchromesh.

... I switched from Mobil 1 and noticed how much better the car ran
I use straight Honda MTF for now, but I've been thinking about using GM synchromesh.

I have to disagree about the Royal Purple support.
I read alot of info on various oils on http://www.bobistheoilguy.com forum page.
Royal Purple is an okay motor oil, however it tends to thin out and break down surprisingly quick.
If you are okay with that, it's an okay oil.
If you are going to need to change the oil frequently, which with Royal Purple you will, you might as well use a good regular oil.
Pennzoil is highly recommended, and can easily do 3000 mile intervals.
I had been using Pennzoil's High Mileage, which is a very good oil, for a while.
It can last ~4500 miles before oil annalysisis show it starting to breakdown.
I have however very recently switched over to the new Castrol synthetic made in Germany.

I have noticed early thinning from watching the oil pressure @ peak throughout the oil's lifespan, yes. I've also done my share of reading at bobistheoilguy and other locations. But, *shrug*, I'm changing every 5k km's and I want to best, soooo... that's fine with me
Lots of the posts over there are coming from different perspectives. To me paying more is acceptable if I get the best, which to me means excellent protection over the oilchange interval, high hp output, and good detergent, shear, and anti-wear additive packages
I'd use regular but then I'd lose HP, so why would I use regular? To me that's like shooting yourself in the foot.

I haven't been grinding at all so it's hard to justify
Plus I'd rather put all my disposable income towards replacing my highly f'ed up wheel bearings
