it's the hatch rubber seal thingamajig
to confirm this, open the hatch a pour a cup of water in between the boot hinges. if water drips off where the lifters attach, the seal isn't working properly

Oh, the leaky hatch joys
OK, I've had leaks from the sunroof drain tubes, the little black vents that sit above the rear hatch wall, each and every taillight, and I'm still getting water in the hatch somehow... maybe the window seals, maybe the hatch struts, maybe the hatch rubber seal, maybe the rear window squirter. I haven't figured it out yet.
The sunroof drain tubes, I removed the little black fingers that always caught crud and caused it to clog. No problems since. The little black vents I used large amounts of silicone and sealed them up all along the edges. No problems since. The taillights I'm too cheap to replace the seals on, so I used large amounts of silicone and created my own taillight seals by siliconing the seal to the taillight and then siliconing the assembly to the chassis. No problems since.
But yet... it still sometimes leaks.
I'll get it this winter though!
