HELP!! I heve the infomous loopy/high idle in my obd1 B18c!!
Ok, its a JDM Gsr with a shunk2 manifold type r cams ond other ****. I have the high and somethings looping idle between 1100 and 1500rpm. I think I eliminated all possible vacum leaks, tps is set to .5v at idle, all unnecesary vacum lines are plugged, the colant is not running through the TB, the FITV and the IACV, the screw in the FITV is screwed in almost all the way in and the IACV is cleaned and no codes thrown. The only thing that brings my idle to a perfect 700rpm is when I unplug the IACV. Does this mant the my IACV is taking a **** or is it because the coolant is not flowing through it, keep in mind I live in AZ every thing gets hot real quick here. Also I have Kenji's p28 ecu which I know runs rich would that matter?
Hello does eny one know?? when i unplug the IACV the idle is good does this mean that the IACV is bad??

If you have the throttle body with the fast idle valve on it and bypass the coolant passage, you'll get the idle surge.

should have know better
your engine doesnt know its hot out there unless the sensor is connected..

New development, I was going to work and my ecu threaw a code, 14
convinient isint it. Doeas that mean its taking a ****, i checked and it was connected but when I was coming back from work it didn't come on. I'll buy a new one if I have to this is the only thing wrong with my car and i'm determined to fix it. Also any one know if running rich would change the idle? thanx for the helpModified by leadfoot78 at 5:14 AM 12/3/2003
Did you remove the intake arm and start the engine, then plug the IACV intake hole within the TB? (with IACV connector connected)
The engine should falter [RPM drop] with this hole plugged.
RPM CONDITIONS:
No change: you may have a leak somewhere else [after the TB]. Check that your Throttle plate is closed all the way (that the Throttle cable is not too tight), go throught he usual intake leak tests.
RPMs drop BELOW ideal idle: IACV is flowing too much air.
RPMs drop to ideal idle: Leak is somewhere besides IACV.
to test the IACV's verility:
1) connect pins A12 and A10 from ECM connector A repeatedly. If the IACV does NOT open/close (have someone listen to it), then it's gone south.
There are a lot of threads around here related to hunting idle, skunk2 manifold installs, etc that may help you further.
Good Luck.

i just fixed it!!! I was tired of it and it threw the code again so I blocked it off and it works great now, idles at 700-800 not looping or high idle while coasting either. Thanx for the help from every one.
