Balancer shaft, what is it? Leaking OIL?
Yesterday after i drove back my accord to my parking. I found out a trail of oil is on the floor and my engine was leaking oiL!! I don't know where does it exactly come from and i think is the recall i miss for 96 97 accord. Where is the balancer shaft? what does it do and where does the oil exactly come from?
THX in advance
edit: one more question, is it able to fix it myself?(w/ minmal engine knowledge)

balancer shft seal is under timing cover, just a seal to hold in oil. you will now have to replace your t-belt and bal. belt from being oil soaked.re-call is over now.
I am sorry..where is the timing cover? i saw two belt on the right side of the engine. are they the belt i have to change?
i already did search..just want to make sure, because there's no specific post that explain step by step for fixing it. Sorry for me being a newbie

If you don't know which belts those are then save yourself the time and money... have someone else do it. I had to change all of my belts when I did my engine swap because I didn't replace that cheap seal. Honda makes one now that has a retainer on it to help keep it from coming out.
In all seriousness though if you have minimal engine knowledge then don't do it yourself have a professional do it.

Your oil leak could be other than the camshaft and balance shaft seals.
There is an oring seal underneath the rear balance shaft sprocket. You remove three bolts to release the sprocket w/ oil pump cover. The gasket under the cover will leak oil from just beneath the water pump. It will drip steady when engine running and stop when engine is off. The oring I removed had hardened, preventing a seal. New gasket fixed the leak.

good luck
