best VTEC controller???? let me kno
G/f's dad is thinking about using a VTEC controller on his s2000. Im leaning towards telling him that the Apex'i V-AFC is his best bet. Anyone else support that controller or have one that they prefer??
yea i kno, but he wants his to engage a little earlier and he is getting ready to put some serious money into it......is it bad to change the VTEC point??? or its set on the s2k because it revs higher than most hondas??
I'd be careful trying to change the vtec engagement point on the s. The ecu will change the engagement point on its own depending on environmental variable IE: temp, pressure, engine temp, etc. Sometime the vtec point gets raised to 7k like when the engine is cold. If you change the point of the vtec lower and the ecu raises it, then there is a mismatch where the afc will running the wrong fuel maps while the ecu runs the wrong timing map. THere is a vtec mismatch option on the afc but there is still skeptism about using it. I use an afc for fuel tuning but disconnected the vtec controler.
Then again I could be wrong.
Then again I could be wrong.
I gained about 9rwhp and 5ft-lbs with a V-AFC. My tuner lowered the VTEC engagement to 5300rpm. At first I was skeptical as to why he set it so low, but he mentioned that with my Toda header, the transition will be much smoother. I found that on my first track day (Thunderhill), I fell out of VTEC on a few turns (due to not pushing very hard and still learning which gears to use for each turn). I'm sure having the smoother transition helps in not upsetting the balance of the car when applying throttle to track out.
