Default Z10 Bedplate (keyword add: block girdle bed plate halo ring)

Does anybody have any experience with the new Z10 bedplate block girdle? Looks like something similar to what they do on the K-series motors and SRT-4 motors. What do you guys think of it?

Since it appears to become an extension of the block skirt, it requires a proprietary oilpan:

From what i have been told they are not machined 100% in tolerances. When you torque the main caps down they give an uneven distribution, thereby wearing the bearings out quicker. I would love to run one, but I havent been able to get a counter statement on what I have heard from anyone reputable.

*Edit* I am speaking of the 3 row block girdle, so quite possible this would be different.

If you have this doweled for the main caps and then line honed then you should have no bearing problems. Assuming the aluminum doesn't deform at high temps.......

The added cost of the line bore, and doweling is at least the cost of the girdle itself. It adds another 600-700.00 into building the bottom end. Between the cost, labor, and questionable performance gains adding one is in most cases not worth it.

Is the one Geoff posted a bedplate design as well? I'm kinda thinking of using one, and if there's more than one on the market, so much the better.

I prefer my stock one:

Part #9.

Only $60.00 if anyone wants to see if it fits on their B series.

It does seem pretty crazy to me that D series motors come with such a good block girdle, and the B series didn't.

Maybe honda wanted to be extra careful because of the long stroke?

that is the girdle from the b20a5 or the b21A from the 88-91 prelude, not the D series.

That motor had a long stroke and very short rod, and as a result an awful rod:stroke ratio.

if it ain't broke, i'll fix it until it is!

but seriously, these things will just be more of a problem than stock if they dont fit right. i think we all remember the z10 3 bolt mains that didnt fit, unless you machined dowels into them.. like stock!

i personally ran an LS block w/o any type of main girdle at 9500rpm for an entire year and had no abnormal bearing wear or related problems in the block.

this personally seems to me like just another marketing scheme to make a buck. sure the new K blocks come with them stock.. but that is STOCK! I dont doubt the z10s may make the bottom end stiffer, but is that even neccesary??

^^ What he said. Z10 gets a huge thumbs down for his comment, badmouthing another business on a public web board, especially in a manner where Larry obviously improved your design.

Yeah i guess you are right, but the big bold COPY! is what pissed me off. Everyone on HT tries to take low blows at Larry whenever they can, I usually just get infuriated when I see it.
