Default CEL came on, how do I put the ECU in Diagnostic Mode?

I drive a 99 Si with a newly installed JRSC with a Apex VAFC. All was running fine yesterday, but tonight, the CEL came on twice. I was getting on the freeway and started boosting, then it came on. I disconnected the battery, and it went off. It came on a second time when I was cruising along at around 40 MPH. How do I put the computer in diagnostic mode to see what the code is?

In a nutshell...
-Pull off passenger side kick panel.
-reach up in front of computer grab rubber plug thing and pull out small connector.
-place a shunt, jumper, whatever you want to call it across the open wires. I normally shove in a small paper clip or a bent staple.
-switch ignition to the on position.
-The CEL will blink in sequence, like L-L-L-L-L-L-L-S-S-S-S. L=Long S=Short.
-L's make up first digit, S's make up second. My example is a 74.
-Codes will cycle and then restart. There is a pause between each different code if there are multiples. Make sure to get them all.

Can I clear this up for those who don't know.

CEL - Is NOT a valid term.

MIL - IS the correct term.

If you look in the book of god (helms manual) you will not find it called a CEL code. It's a MIL code.

Thanks

I never said it was a "CEL code". I wanted to put the ECU in "limp" mode so I can get the "code".

And you are welcome!

Per my original post, and I quote...

All was running fine yesterday, but tonight, the CEL came on twice
Okay, let's analyze this... Where do you see the word "code"? From my perspective, it is NOWHERE in that statement. Now, what does CEL stand for? (See below)

Check Engine Light

Do you see "code" in there again? I don't. So now you get the Unreal Tournament SHOVE!!!

CEL = Check Engine Light
MIL = Malfunction Indicator Lamp

The finger one is on my picture site. As for the others, I just "borrow" them from other types of message boards.

Listen here.....

CEL doesn't mean ****. It's the stupid layman's term for a MIL code.

When the light comes on "Yellow Check light", it mean you need to jumper your pins and get the MIL code.

Tell you this, go talk to your Acura/Honda mechanic and tell him you got a CEL, I'd love to hear the laughter you receive when you turn your back.

You were trying to be technical, but it didn't work. So go home little boy and play with your pictures some more. I've grown tired of your constant muttering.

GOD DAMN. WTF DOES IT MATTER WETHER HE SAID CEL OR MIL, JUST ANSWER HIS FU%$ING QUESTION ALREADY. He is here asking a valid question, not here to be analyzed on how he decided to work his problem. It does not give a flying **** how he says it, we all know what he means, not just help the damn guy out.

So what if it's a Layman's term, it got my point across, didn't it?

All I asked was how to do this. I didn't care what the terms meant.

Tell you this, go talk to your Acura/Honda mechanic and tell him you got a CEL, I'd love to hear the laughter you receive when you turn your back.
Actually, my mechanic looked at this post and laughed at you. He says CEL.

You were trying to be technical, but it didn't work. So go home little boy and play with your pictures some more. I've grown tired of your constant muttering
Technical? How so? I stated my dilemma, got an answer, end of story. My point was clear and concise, very easy to understand. Granted, I mentioned the situations to when the light came on. You came along and had to "clear things up" after my question was answered.

End of line.

Thanks vteg for the help. And thanks, 92CivicSiR, for having my back!

Now, with all that aside, let's go find some races!!
