Default OT: Valentine1 - Where did you place it?

Hi!

As the topic says, where do I place the V1? In Norway, its a 750USD fine if the cops sees it in the car. May stille save me from going to jail on a bad day And no, I dont drive like a friggin idiot, but unlike the USA, we only have 60mph zones.

Here she is:

You cant be TOO subtle hiding it because the rear radar has to get a clear shot of the back.

This is where I mounted mine, for a trip.

i dont know if theres any places out in norway that can do this but a shop where i work at sometimes can put a V1 remote display in your mirror in a way that you cant see it unless its on. basically we take apart your mirror and get special glass cut to make it look perfect. when its on you can see it clear as day but when its off you dont even know its in the mirror.
the shops website is STREETEFFECTZ.com
heres a couple pics of what it looks like ( they also put a 2.5 screen in the rearview just cause they can)

they can also do side mirrors if you want some BLING!

I wired mine into the car using the accompanying spice kit. I run a gray phone cord up the A-pillar behind the rubber door gasket trim inside the car and put it on the visor, since it gets up high that way. I close the sunroof if I do get pulled over. I've gotten off a few times, and cops never let you off if they know you've got a detector.

If i have a passenger, then I can still window mount it with a ~2M long cord (6 ft.).

Wow, that's cool, looks like it was done in a E46 bimmer, can I ask how much an install like that costs?

That stuffs pretty easy to do, Just crack open the Rear View Mirror and have a piece of Two way Miror Cut in the same shape as the OEM Mirror and replace.

I had one like this in my ITR 2+ years back, the OEM Mirror didn't seperate but the Older Integras did. In Mine I had two Digital Temp Gauges for some Amps.
- You snap it apart and get the 2 way mirror cut to fit.
- Then dremel down some of the plastic inside as the OEM mirror is beveled from top to bottom and the 2 way mirror is not (Its about the same thickness as the Thicker part of the OEM one)
- Test fit the Gauges (or whatever your mounting) in behind the glass and test fitment of the front half of the mirror housing onto the back. Dremel the plastic to get the parts to fit. The Gauges should fit right up to the Glass.
- Epoxy the gauges to the inside of the Mirror housing.
- Wiring: you have 2 options - 1)Drill a hole near the Mounting arm and use some plastic tubing to cover the wires coming out of the hole. OR (what I did & more stealth) 2) Using the Dremel make a channel in the center of the Mounting arm that the wiring will fit into, apply a little bit of epoxy and then put the wires in (Just so they stay in) Then mix some bondo up and fill the channel, do some sanding when dry, spray with Flat Black Rustoleum and then run the wires to your source.

Suggestion - For the Best reflectiveness of the 2 way mirror, cover the sections that do not have to show through light with some Spray Paint, mask off the front and the area that the gauges will show through and paint the rest black, or simply cover with electrical tape.

- Now mount everything up and Close up the mirror, as long as everything is fitting well I suggest applying a dab of epoxy or super glue to the corners and center of the 2 piece of mirror housing, so that they do not come apart.

Good Luck

BTW If I find my old Mirror, I will post up some pics of it.

Hmm, I kinda flew through that, but they never talk about how they tested, or gave numbers. car and driver did that, and if I remember correctly, didn't V1 win again?

Besides, when the V1 does come out with new technology, I can always sent it in with $120 and get a new V1. Can you do that with the escort? I'm not sure......

HI again, and thanks for great response!

How big is tha V1? It seems pretty small, but from what I understand, it needs a clear line of sight in every direction, which makes it kinda hard to hide.. Mike: Great job on the mirror install. I couldn't see anything resembling a V1 there.

Are there seperat sensor which may be mounted elsewhere, or do you need the entire unit?

Sorry, apparently I wasn't around for the original arguement, but I'm just stating what I didnt' see on that website, gimme something concrete, not "please God, not this again."
iirc =?

I checked my V1 seral number..
*INSTANT UPGRADE: As soon as we receive your old unit (in operable condition with no tampering of the serial number) weÂ’ll exchange it for a brand-new, current-production V1. This is our way of assuring youÂ’ll be without V1 protection for the shortest time.
PRICE: $189 plus shipping

Shipping is 6.50... I get up to date technology for $195.. Far from $130 and far from $299.

I've *heard* people people taking the V1 apart and placing sensors around the car... I haven't actively searched for topics on this, nor am I interested in taking apart a $400 detector.

You could mount it on the visor.. and use the concealed unit display. If you get pulled over just quietly pull it off and hide it. Cop won't see lights from the detector. Is it illegal to have a detector, or to have objects on your window? For your purposes, its probably worthwhile getting something you can hide.

If you have got the money to invest it in this.

why not get a radar, laser jammer and than hide that.

I don't hide mine. Cops never even look if they don't see power cords, flashing displays, or suction cup marks on the windshield first. Last thing you want to do is start making a lot of unnecessary movements to remove the detector. Cop will have a lot of questions then.

Well, if you have some tints, it might be hard to see. yea, otherwise I don't know if I'd make a move to hide it.

A store for S2000 accessories has a leather V1 cover. It only has openings for the detectors (f & b). So, as long as you can hide all the wires, people won't readily know what it is.

V1 owns all radar detectors. Period. It saved me twice in one trip. And, one was creeping up on me slowly but surely and V1's arrow saved me.
