I currently have the VENOM VCN2000 notrous kit on my 94 accord (H22A). I am considering getting a Mugen chipped ECU but I was told that variable timing and nitrous don't mix? Does anyone have this setup currently on her/his car? Can this work?

 

variable timing and N2O work fine together, it's just that the chips like that advance the timing hellaciously. not a good idea, unless your dumping some good fuel in there.

 

i would not do that since mugen programs are usually heavily advanced timing for all motor setups.
that will usually lead to blown engines on nitrous.
to get araound that you may see about getting an ignition that can let you retard timing when spraying.

But id honestly rather just get az Vafc or something else, over a chip: you never know what was done to that chip, unless you did it yourself

 

I have the V-AFC already.

But wouldn't the chip (without the nitrous) give better all round power, more consistently, while the nitrous obviously only gives that added burst when you spray. Maybe the chip is the better power adder overall?

The other consideration is that the damn nitrous kit is VENOM. The bloody thing won't spray hard enough to blow the engine I bet (it also won't spray enough to give much additional hp). It shuts down as soon as it suspects the wind is going to change direction. Maybe I can getaway with the chip plus nitrous because of the VENOM ecu piggy back.

 

most chips are not designed for the engine you have....they are programs for specific race engines, so its hit or miss if they even make power. the best way to chip is to go hondata and have teh chip programms for your car specifically. i know my hondata s100 makes FAR more power than the "mugen" p28 i have.

 

the mugen chip is a very poor choice for any car that's not running a different cam, or reving a lot higher than stock....it's not designed for a stock car, it's designed for a mugen race car....and besides, they typically disable some sensors which could cause problems in the realm of troubleshooting, and also, they advance the timing WAYYYYYYYY too much for a nitrous setup. Get a hondata or an AEM EMS if you're going to mess with your factory ECU.
