what is the concensus on the first oil change, i suppose honda uses some type of oil for proper break in but when did everyone first change their oil?

5000. Chaning before that can be bad for the engine. Honda's factory fill (not the stuff you get at the dealer) is loaded with Moly and Si to help the engine break-in properly. You risk burning more oil later on if you don't keep the oil in for the first 5000 miles. Same goes with the S2000.

if it's loaded with Moly that's a bad thing...it means your rings won't properly seat.

I would change it at 20 miles, 100, and then 500-1000. Then follow your normal maintenance routine. The first miles are the most important. To encourage proper ring seating, I would dog the engine right out of the chute (thankfully most long shoremen drive your car like crazy when offloading it from the boat). Run a basic oil during the first miles as well.

While the engines are made to exacting tolerances, any metal flakes that would develop should happen very early. Following break-in, a good Moly oil is fine.

Check your manual. If your not racing no need to change it at 1000 miles maybe wait until 3000.

there's nothing wrong with changing your oil at 1k miles.

I would just follow Honda's recommendations. They built the car and I think their engineers know what's best. I'd take it easy for the first 1k miles driving.

the k-20 motor is bench run and broken in by honda! the break in period is more for the clutch, brakes, drive belt, ect... the oil change is fine.
