Default A Tale of two Hondas

I have two hondas, a 88 civic hatch back (4th gen) and a 96 Accord. I want turbo one of these cars. The Civic has a 4 speed stick, 1.5 L base engine. The Accord has a F22B2 engine with automatic. Originally, I was going to swap the civic and add turbo. But now, since I got the Accord I really like it, so I was thinking about modding it. This would be somewhat in the future. The Accord also has a nice stereo system in it already, the Civic doesn't. The cheaper the better. Can you put turbo on a F22 (i.e. would it be wise)?

F22 (or other engine if swap would be better)turbo Accord with auto to manual conversion VS. B18 swap turbo Civic.

What would you do? How much would it cost? Give me pros and cons of each project.

I know that this is an Accord forum but try to be balance in your opinions.

Thanks in advance for all opinions!

IMHO, I would build the civic. Yeah, the accords cool and all, but if your really wanting to go fast, do the civic.
It's lighter, there's already more aftermarket support for the b series (if you decide to do that), and it's already manual.

Either way, it's going to be a lot of $ and work.

Well, actually, if it was ME, I'd just do both of them.

it depends wat you want...do u want to be competitive and only care about racing? or do u care more about luxory and a little bit about performance? this is biased but i would turbo the accord because everyone has swapped civics and all dat...but if u want a nice chill ride then work on the accord...but if ur purely about racing than go ahead with the civic...or sell both and get rwd

a turbo f22 can make alot of power, but it wont be anywhere near as fast as doing a swap in your super-light civic and boosting it. if you really want a nice drag/track car, go all out on the civic and keep your accord a plush, gas efficient cruising vehicle. if you want the best of both world's, the accord isnt hopeless, it'll just take ALOT more money to get near equal performance out of it.

Do the swap and turbo the civic. It'll have more potential.

I/H/E, and nitrous for the Accord. Swap, and turbo for the Civic.

By the way, DSM turbo parts should work with the F22B2. Can you say junkyard turbo? TeamElusive on HondaSociety has done a custom setup on his JDM F22B2. May want to talk to him.

I am not really into racing. I just want a reasonably fast car thats fun to drive. I think I would go with the Accord because it's newer and I like it so much if it weren't for being an auto. Can anyone give a ballpark figure on both mods and level of difficulty? I know this is a no-no, but is it possible to have a turbo accord and still have it be automatic? Can the tranny handle it? I know I couldn't get as much out of it as a stick, but just having a little something extra might be enough.

yes you can turbo the auto but there's some issue i would like you to know..
auto tranny cant hold up much abuse, turbo and old motor dont mix...and turbo is alot of hassle(I love it but it's very time consuming to keep up) and it's money pit..
if you just want it to have little more punch to it..get some cheater gas..n20, just have a little 65shots with a tranny cooler and you'll be cool

automatics can certiantly handle the boost.....especially with a transmission fluid cooler, but seriously, modern automatics hold boost just as well, if not better than manuals.....actually, I'd prefer the auto for boosted applications, my brother's team uses nothing but automatics for their turbo cars.

Anyhow, my vote is with the Civic...just because it'll be a lot more rewarding in the end speed wise.....the Accord for pimp factor.

From experience? on honda? unless you have domestic or something..
you can boost with auto tranny but even with the tranny cooler, torque upgrade, you are not getting as much as manual tranny does.
dont get me wrong, you can burn your clutch too but manual is strong and better with boost.

tell me more about your bro's crews/team/club things..I am interested

that junkyard turbo was done on a JDM DOHC non VTEC F22B. not a USDM F22B2. his motor and turbo setup is now in 'akkord's' car.
