is it more expensive to mod a accord then a civic?
a recent oppurtunity came up with my brother in law who says he will trade me his 90 accord 5 speed 2 door plus cash for my civic hatch.
id lose the mods in my sig with the car other then the internals which will be sold off and the engine replaced by a used one with new seals and gaskets.
the accord is bone stock.
just wondering if it would be worth while to mod the accord rather then the civic. i started to mod the civic because it was cheap and simple motor.
i see some people putting in h22s into accords, is this a difficult task or as simple as a b16 in a civic.
again im new to hondas so please no flaming

its pretty simple, honestly as much as i love accords. if i were you i would stick with the civic, it seems like youve already got enough invested in it. (is it automatic or manual?) the accord is probably quicker but if you think about it the civic has more potential.
it all depends on what you want, dont forget you can put an H22 in that civic too. but fixing up an accord would be more origonal, both great platforms good luck with your decision

a h22 into the civic is a lot more time consuming and a lot more fabbing then im prepared to do, kinda wish they had a motor mount kit for it.
hmmmmm.....

Well think of it this way. I tried to turbo an accord....and now i've bought a grand worth of parts fora Civic I dont even own yet.

id keep the civic hatch if you are happy with it, it also seems like you have a fair amount invested in it. If you do decide to go for the accord you might want to conisder how good a shape it is in. While less original the civic will be easier to find parts for due to its immense popularity amongst tuners.

Get the accord, civics are so plentiful, u don't see many clean accords now and days, and yes i believe the H22 does just drop in the accord (correct me if im wrong), but it might be a bit more expensive from the quotes that i have gotten, honda's are cheap to hook up really, it just really depends on part varieties, civics and integra have tons of parts, while accords u have to search a bit for

Re: (Fook_me_honda)
the decision is really what you want...an accord is always nice to have when you need to go on a road trip or haul something or someone around with you...nice leg room and plenty of cargo area...the civic does not...
however, if you are more into performance, the civic will probably be the best bet for the money...accords aren't necessarily expensive to modify, but they don't have quite the aftermarket support as the civics always have had...
the h22 drops in relatively easy without a crazy amount of modification...i'd say it's definitely an easier swap than a b16 into a civic...but, on the other hand, the f22's that come stock in the accord are fairly strong and are just begging for boost...the motors are also dirt cheap if you ever need to replace it, or anything in it...
so again, the question is more of what you want to get out of the car than it is which is the better car...

Re: (Fook_me_honda)
The thing that changed my mind was power to weight ratio and availability of aftermarket support.
Civic-3,000
K-series 4,500
Install parts- 3,200
Misc(disk brakes, paint) 4k
So for under 15k I can get low 13's reliably with a K series pushing 200+hp (tuned w/upgrades) on a car that weighs 2250 lbs (overestimated due to swap), and I could be making more but I want it to be reliable and streetable...
To get an accord in the 13's requires a built engine with FI unless youre building a purpose built race car...
It's all up to my wallet and what I want...so thats whats up to you too...

5k - accord.
10k - to make an accord hit 13's reliable is cake walk...
even w/ all motor it can be done, 2point6 has said that his h22 build could be duplicated for under 10k i forgot the exact figure but it was definately under 10k.
it does not cost 10k to make an accord hit 13's reliably.
way under 10k you can build f22bx block w/ forged pistons, rods, stock sleeves, turbo, EMS and make 250-300whp pretty reliably if you ask me
but all the same can be done to a civic and it would be faster...

Ah but i'm following the wave of the future...
A B series can be in for 5k and it can turn 13's daily for several thousand dollars less than a K swap. K is just much easier to get power from by tuning and bolting on...

Re: (accordselux)
modifying any car properly key word being properly is going to be expensive whether its a civic or an MR2 or an MX6. You can find more junk easily for a civic so people think theyre easier and cheaper to mod. If you compare top quality parts and services it isnt gonna be cheaper than anything else. And if you can get a clean 90-93 Accord bone stock you have a very nice car on your hands. An accord yr to yr is twice the car the civic is...and seriously how fast do you need to go?
