Will an OBD2 D-series motor work with an OBD1 ECU?
I searched. No luck. I'm getting a 96+ D-series non-vtec motor from a friend, and was just wondering if I could use a p06 with it. I have a 92 Civic Hatch.
If he is giving you the OBD2 harness along with the motor then you can just get a OBD2 to OBD1 conversion harness to use the OBD1 ECU.
Very easy remedy.
Keep the OBD2 distributor.
Run your OBD1 engine harness, and use your OBD1 injectors.
To keep the OBD2 distributor, all you'll have to do is repin the two fat wires from the OBD2 dist. plug into the "extra" plug that your OBD1 engine harness will have.
The colors will even match up. One will be like a black wire with yellow tracer, the other should be blue.
I'll be back with pics on how to do this...
As far as the ECu goes, the OBD1 will work just fine.

As promised:

Very simple.
Why do this instead of swapping the distributor?
1. Newer distributor is less likely to fail
2. Don't have to reset the timing

depends on the year of the car, if you run the whole obd-2 motor harness injectors and distributor it will plug right into an obd-1 car and the obd-1 ecu will work, now if your running it in a obd-2 car then the obd-1 ecu won't work without a jumper......

No it will not.
You're thinking of the Integra harness. I run an Integra OBD2 engine harness in my 1992 Civic, but the 1996-2000 Civic harness is nothing like the 1994-2001 Integra or 1992-1995 Civic harnesses.
The 1996-2000 Civic DX harness is all one piece and goes through the firewall.
Please be sure about things when you post about them, because there has been quite a bit of misinfo in this topic thus far guys.
