Default 12 ton press... wheeel bearings?

will a 12 ton press be enough to press out and replace wheel bearings?

I've used a 12-ton press before, although i've never tried to press out a wheel bearing. I'm going to vote no on this one. I know most mechanics shops use 50ton presses to do that type of work.

It should do it, unless you get a really nasty tight one.

depends really. I've had them come out with a benchtop hand press and I had them where the only way to them out was a 1.5in steel socket and a 20lb sledge. Sometimes you just can't get he casing in the right position in the press or else the press will snap the casing like a twig.

50 ton!! wow! i've never seen those, we have a 12 ton at the shop, and when we have nasty work that requires more we send it to a 20 ( i think) ton press and never had a problem.

Yea, we have a 10 ton, it's good for about 98% of them. A BFH will usually get the rest of them.

FYI, the 12-ton press did the trick. The hardest part is positioning the knuckle to press the hub out
