Default new to the scene...wondering which is better?? (i know this has been beaten to death)

Ok..i know that u guys have already talked about the differences between a b16a vs b18a/b/c
and ive read what i could from doing searches on teh subject. My question is that I am thinking about doing an engine swap...(btw i have a stock 94 civ ex coupe) and I am getting confused at waht the best daily driver / performance engine would be. Remember if its daily driver..that means as low maintanence as can be...and i dont mean neglect..just not like i gotta tear apart the engine frequently..prefereably not unless its just routine maintenance.

I have read that b16a is a good choice esp with the CTR pistons, but like many ppl say with the high compression..is it a good daily driver? and what is the general hp this engine makes from this mod keeping everything else stock.

The b18b is good as it seems to be a good low priced engine with cheap mods to make it go rather quick..but is this with forced induction? i am looking for only NA setups.

anyways...if u could lemme know what u think on either a b16a vs b18 setup..and what mods u recommend...and try and keep it decently priced....3-4 grand. I am tryign to build this car into a daily driver / sleeper.

Thanks for any help you can give...

If I was you I would buy a GSR motor(B18B) that is the 1.8L DOHC VTEC. With this motor you an kick some major butt on the street, and be just as reliable as the factory setup.

Since its an EX, if you get a 94-95 GSR motor you should easily be able to complete the swap in your garage in 1 weekend if you have all of the required parts on hand. I recommend this over a B16A.

go with the GSR B18C and then add bolt ons and leave the rest stock for a daily driver car.

92CivicSiR if u didnt know that the b18b was the NON-VTEC Ls motor, then u dont know Jack....the Gsr motor is either the b18c (JDM) or B18c1(Usdm)

so it seems u guys are all in favor for the gsr engine eh? it just seems alot more for barely anymore hp...am i just being naive or somthing...i see most gsr engines for like 1 grand more than the ls b18b or the b16a...as someone said earlier...the b168b seems like the way to go since its not vtec...lower compression which usualy means higherboost...but since im going n.a. im wondering about those ppl with the ls/vtec setup...can u guys explain more on this??

thanks...

lower compression doesn't mean higher boost when using stock pistons/rods....the gsr makes more power than anyother h/a engine provided the same amount of modification, therefore it is usually the top choice. If you were to ask say...I want to run 12's and I have x amount of dollars, everything could change...you have to have a goal in mind when building your car...that is why posts like this are too hypothetical to allow for an educated decision.

Believe me... a B18C and a B16a feels totally different behind the wheel.
If you want a daily driver thats good on gas... just go with the GSR and just add bolt ons. Forget turbo or LS/VTEC. Their more of "high performance variety" then a "drive to the corner store type" The more you toy with it the more you have to maintain it. decide what you want to do first.... do you really want a High Perf. car or a good basic daily driver? Just to let you know...... my little bro's Turbo B18c gets roughly 10 miles a gallon. but hes around 14lbs boost. So think carefully what you want out of this car ...

that is actually incorrect...I get 29 MPG w/ turbo...and I have friends w/ turbo integras getting the same...I have been turbo for over a year w/ no problems what at all....turbo is fine for a daily driver as long as you don't drive like a jackass

29 MPG is damn good! I have no idea why his gets roughly 10MPG maybe its more, but not sure. He runs it at 14LBS all the time and its pretty high compresson too. (ITR pistons) on a B18C block w/B16A head.
