Edelbrock turbo kit for SOHC V-TEC 96-00 civic
I was thinking about gettin the Edelbrock turbo kit #1500. I have a 2000 honda civic HX...so its a d16y5 SOHC engine with VTEC-E.
will the kit for d16y8 SOHC VTEC fit my cars???
or does anyone out there have the kit in there HX??? if do, how does it perform?

As a guy w/ an HX, there are relatively no parts available for the HX. Although you might be able to get the turbo to work, with a D16Y8 head you would probably make more power and have real VTEC. Also, since the HX has the cat in the exhaust manifold, you will have to get a cat for an EX and an exhaust for an EX.

most if not all parts for an ex will fit an hx.
as for the turbo you might run lean untill 3k when the vtec kicks in.
nothing an afc hack cain't handle or so i've been told

I know this has been debated a thousand times, but stick with the HX head and whatnot. Im not sure if the more strict emissions controls on the HX will go crazy over the boost, but in all reality, grab an EX tranny first, you'll notice a huge increase in accelleration!

I agree. Your HX is a great engine even if it is made for emissions, it still puts out a good amount of power.
Look into the transmission, a EX intake (will fit your car) and an "Axle-back" exhaust.

I read somewhere that the kit costs like $3500 and makes like 175 hp and 134 ft lb. tq...
....for that price you could just get a JDM GSR swap and have the VTEC bonus and not have to worry about all the extra parts for a turbo kit...just something I was thinking about.....but if you decide to stay with the turbo kit....good luck and hopefully everything will work out for you..

THe JDM GSR will not put out that much power or torque stock.
And if you want more on your SOHC.....turn up the boost a PSI or two.

Everyone always says swap swap swap. I turbo'd my y8 recently still on the 5.5 psi that the greddy kit comes with stock and I beat my buddies 97 DX hatch with a gsr in it. It was a close race but nontheless. Anyway. I believe the edelbrock kit runs 7 psi.
The Edelbrock turbo kit will control the VTEC point, and it kicks in at 5500 rpm. The problem with the HX is that they use VTEC for ecconomy, so I don't believe the system will run right on a HX. I'd say, pick up a cheap Y8 to swap in instead...with a couple little extra goodies, you can turn up the stock boost point from the edelbrock kit and add more fuel.

True the Y8 head may be better, but I'd like to see what the HX can do...it'd be interesting.

The biggest problem with the HX is the fuel. If you tune on a dyno before you run around town in the turbo, you will see if the stock ECU will compensate for the fuel.

Yes you can turn up the boost but depending on the work that has been done with the motor, every one here should np the damage when boosting to much with a stock motor

There is a guy on here that used to have a junk yard turbo kit on his Hx.... I think his best time was 13.7 with stocks tranny and aftermarket clutch..
His name is bretx0r search his old topics, and read... He has info about his setup on there...
