OUCH....the exploded tranny of bad luck fridays!
last friday on my way down 91south in rush hour traffic i decided to get a little mad because i was hurt for time.... so seeing a clear path out into the left lane i puch it slight power shift into second and KABOOMMM
i had to laugh about it because i did it to myself and then i didn't have a car to drive for labor day weekend...ended up getting a loaner from my father... but still it sucked.
just so you know its a JDM s1 tranny with an action 1ms clutch and lightened flywheel. no other parts were damaged apon inspection although there was alot of medal shavings. the whole actually blew into the clutch/flyweel side and there was aoubt a 2-3 inch hole in there. there was also alot of cracks and even the speed sensor broke off...WOW! i tell ya what though that action clutch sure does hold up to the pressure.
thanks Tbone for the spare and Keithv for the hook up. Much
flame away....lol

damn, i drove my old car HARD for two years and never did something like that. i guess these old cable trannies are even weaker than i thought.
keithv... i used tbones s1 tranny for now. have to wait to get some $ for the action clutch that fits that tranny. once i get it on i'll be sure to let you know. Your ball joint trick worked wonders! saved me from F**K THIS I'M GOING HOME! lol.
the diff pins were the first thing to fall out of the tranny so im sure they were a ke reason why this explosion took place.
i don't think that cable trannys are weak... it had alot to do with me driving like an idiot and dropping the clutch at way to high of rpms and on a mis-shift at that. just did everything wrong.

I gotta dig up pics of mine...... the tranny casing expolded, about a 2" hole at the end of it. opened it up, every gear had all the teeth sheared straight off. another hole in the back of the tranny as well. fun stuff
I had a JDM J1

keithv: what's your balljoint trick? mine is to use a BFH and hit them hard, or in the case of trying to remove the driver knuckle from my 90 Std this past weekend when the lower balljoint stud just started spinning with the nut, I used an angle grinder and grinded down the whole thing.
what happened with mine was those little gears that are in the pic above broke and jamed it. when i took the case apart i took out he diff and 1 gear was no longer there it just must have broke into many little pieces and the other had all the teeth ripped of exept one!
Has anybody seen this happen to a D-series tranny?
Just wondering because I've been driving like a moron for the past few months. Surprized my tranny hasn't blown up...

the best part about it is you don't need to whack the **** out of the LCA and get all tired.
you could drink a beer doing it this way!

I blew the pin on my 4th gen Dx tranny. But I got lucky and the pin just lodged up in the Diff. with no severe case damage. It did bend the casing around the shift linkage inside the case wedging the shift lever into fourth gear.
