There are many reasons why VTEC may not activate. Anything from the engine not at normal operating temp to a failing solenoid.

If the the car is still under warranty, your best bet would be to take it to the dealership.

VTEC will kick in at any temp. on any Honda that has it...most Hondas you can't hear it, some you can. But it does kick in at any temp...

no ... i've on 2 occasions revved past 5,800 rpms where vtec hasn't engaged and just from not hearing it, i knew my engine wasn't warm w/o looking at the coolant guage...and you can hear my engine qutie well with the windows down and cai installed...unless the engine's in optimal running temp, vtec won't engage

not true man...car has to be up to temp! ITRs have a very pronounced kick over point...especially if youve got anything other than a stock air box!!

Boy are you a Jackass. do you have a factory repair manual or an owners manual, if so, then READ the damn thing. For VTEC to engage it reads signals for both coolant temp and oil pressure, if either or all are not up to spec at the time, VTEC WILL NOT ENGAGE. OUT!

I've also noticed that on a very hot day VTEC will still kick-in but sometimes you can hardly notice it...

I had a bad prob where VTEC wouldn't engage during high speed cornering (especially uphill).
Even with the mugen oilpan?!! This caused the engine to eventually fail Oil level was fine.
But since there was no oil pressure as all the oil slid to one side, it failed to kick in until i straightened
out the car and all of a sudden it kicked in at 7000 rpm!! When it should have been at 4700
