Default Test pipe myth question?

I have a JDM Mugen header and a USDM Comptech exhaust. I've heard people say that a test pipe will sound like crap if it's a different size diameter than the exhaust. The test pipe from Dan (GodSpeed) is a full 2.5 diameter. The guys with a GodSpeed test pipe and 2.25 exhaust, does it sound like crap?

I want to upgrade to a test pipe, but don't want the raspy sound. I can live with a higher db exhaust, I just can't live with an exhaust that sounds like complete $hit.

Again, 2.5 test and 2.25 exhaust ... sounds ok or horrible?

It will make it louder. As far as raspy sounding I think that depends more on your muffler.

Don't get the Test pipe from Godspeed. The cat material will eventually break and your cell light will come on. Get a high flow cat from IPS. Oh and the Godspeed pipe fits poorly.

Or just get ur ecu reprogram to OBD1, then there will be no CEL ever for the 2nd O2 sensor!!

I have the Mugen JDM headers and a 2.5" test pipe, and it sounds raspy as hell. I dont have a resonator though. Id go for the carsound cat That's what im getting next.

I have the test pipe and stock exhaust. In my opinion it doesn't sound raspy. As far as the test pipe from God that's a whole other story. We installed it yesterday, the O2 bung is too tall and it hits the underside of the car if mounted on the top of the pipe, in order to make it fit, we had to rotate the pipe sideways so the O2 sensor connected to the side. Then the wires from the O2 sensor were too short so we had to lengthen the wires in order for the sensor to fit properly. I haven't had the problem of the cat material breaking, but then again I have only had mine for a day. If I were you I would get a high-flow cat and not worry about the test pipe, IMHO the few extra horsepower are not worth all the trouble of the installation.

Good Luck

The O2 has to face that way to clear the linkage due to it's length. The cat pieces have not broken on any save for one that I warrantied no problem. If you find that to be a problem please by all means send it back and I can fix it for you right away.

I would also like to defend Dan's service and products. I needed a test-pipe, the OBD2 version, and he got it for me very quickly ( I believe within 3 days ). I haven't had any problems with the cat material, no CEL light, and actually, only minor discoloration of my rear bumper, which can easily be removed by Meguiar's paint cleaner. Just wanted to share my experience and opinion.

Jon L.

BTW-I didn't notice the exhaust being any louder, but prior to the test pipe, I was basically running an open header.

I have been running the Godspeed testpipe for a few months now without any CEL. I did have to lengthen the wires and rotate the pipe for it to fit, but not a big deal. The testpipe could be a little shorter (0.75") as it pushes the stock exhuast too much. With the stock exhaust it doesn't sound raspy at all.

I just installed my Godspeed test pipe. The bolt holes were way too small so we had to drill them. Dan offered to fix of course but I took care of the issue.

Same problems here on the O2 sensor, but as Dan said, it will only fit if it is sideways. In terms of length, yeah, a little too long, but a good snug fit, so that is probably good.

goign to start it up tommarrow, wish me luck guys

or u can get smsp's adapter that modifies your b pipe.

its a reducer from 2.5 to wutever size u need i believe. its 40 bucks and requires cutting and welding your B pipe.

thats what im gonna do real soon.

I've had my Godspeed test pipe for about 6 mos. with no CEL.

True, the pipe is about 1/2 inch too long and was causing my Mugen twinloop to rattle, but using some different bolts and a JDM adjustable rubber hanger cured that. However, Dan, whoever you got to fit that rear flange onto the pipe should be shot.
