whats the best radar?
i want to get one, but i dont know much of anything about them. whats the best out there in terms of quality and price range. and are there any laws against using them in CA? we've always got the most bs laws.
The easy answer to this is DON'T SPEED!!!!
But, if you're gonna anyway, get an escort. The range on them is unbeatable and the false alarms are minimal. Some people will claim the Valentine1 is the way to go but they don't work as well as the Escorts do. The only thing they have going for them is the directional indicator. Which, when you think about it, does it really matter WHERE it's coming from?
All in all my opinion is that detectors are an expensive way of telling you that you got caught. Police radar will always be one step ahead of detector technology and, despite what anyone says, there is NO way to detect laser until it hits your car. I don't own one. I don't speed anymore (losing your license will do that to ya.) But if I did it would be an Escort.

That is true but there are those times where you are speeding for whatever reason and having a little warning to slow down doesn't hurt. If you get one and figure "hey, I'm gonna speed everywhere and slow down when it starts beeping" then you're going to get tickets.

I only use mine for open highway
On my last road trip, my friend was doing 110+ through the desert for hours. And he did not get a ticket. I even caught one cop miles before I got to him, hiding in the bushes using instant on. He shot me as I drove by, but I had slowed down way before I got to him. I give the v1 a second vote. It's range is insane.

Valentine One has better range than the Escort. It will false more though. The V1 also tells you how many bogey's there are, and the arrows are useful.
The V1 works better than the Escort... how do I know? I had both and returned the Escort.

Well until you have used one for a couple of thousand miles on the open highway, it would seem to be a silly luxury. It DOES matter which direction it is coming from. The more information you have, the less likely you are to get a ticket.

About 420 shipped. The v1 is only sold direct from valentine. Used ones on ebay go for 300 or so. IMO, it is worth it to get a new one though. The software is always changing. If you buy one on ebay, make sure they give you the software revision. Mine is 3.281 from memory. It is about 2 months old. Also all v1's are upgradeable to the latest version, if you send it into them for a cost. Cost varies depending upon age of the v1.
