Which radar?
Which would be the best for money?
Whistler, Escort, or Cobra?
I dont have Valentine or K2 money so which would help the most or are there any other detectors around that price range?

Any of the Bel detectors are good,I'd stay away from Uniden,Whistler,Cobra, etc.Escorts are good, but I wouldn't go with the cordless models.Try Ebay...just my .2 cents.
It's always an arguement between the 8500 and the V1. Both are good detectors and magazine and test reviews and stuff.
But I have an 8500 and my friend how had a v1 (which he said was a pos) has one, I can think of ten people I know who have an 8500 (or their stealthy sr7 counterpart) and have nothing but praise for it. And it is compatible with their ZR3 laser diffuser. The V1 doesn't have anything like that and I still don't get the reason for the silly arrows though.

I'm a V1 snob, I'll admit it. But I will say that the 8500 is up there. Actually, I take that back, it is slightly better, but only slightly. On several trips, when driving next to someone with an 8500, there were a *few* occassions that the 8500 picked up a signal anywhere between one and two seconds faster than the V1 did. These were K and Ka signals out in the sticks, where it was obviously a cop - and confirmed at that.
The only reason why I prefer the V1, I don't like guessing. And I also don't like slowing down for a long period of time only to find out that the beep was from behind me, and not in front of me, where I was closing in, instead of gaining a margin of space between the officer and I.
/my two cents.

Used v1's are around 300. That is why I bought a new one last year.
Don't hate the arrows until you have gone on a 1000+ mile road trip with them. As previously said, if the cop is behind me then speeding up may be the answer
