Default Noticed Greddy Turbo Kit for 92-95 Civic Sohc Vtec = no BOV...why?

I noticed that the greddy turbo kit for a 92-95 civic sohc vtec doesnt come with a BOV and wanted to know why?....Also if I put an intercooler on later would there be a need for a BOV (all this is runnin stock boost --6/7psi)(Daily Driven) Thanx!

SOHC GReddy Turbo Kits don't come with injectors, BOV, or an intercooler.

is it because you dont need all that on a stock civic engine running on 6/7psi????

yep, pretty much.

I would recommend getting an intercooler and a bov even if you are gonna stick with stock boost.

An intercooler will cool the intake charge, thus reducing the risk of detonation, and increasing potential power greatly.

A blow off valve will vent pressure from your boost pipes that would otherwise flow back the compressor turbine, causing what is called compressor surge, which is when the presurized air trie to flow out the worng way, which is bad for the turbo.

Neither of them are really necessary, but since you paid for the turbo kit, you might as well spend a little extra and do it right, and make sure it lasts a long time.

All these replies and still no one has the correct answer. The BOV is illegal in California and hence the greddy is 50 state legal. They could not get it certified with either the BOV or the intercooler. Both are not legal for street use in California.

a diverter valve is different from a BOV. All factory turbo cars are rerouted into the intake. it's a sealed system

but, BOV don't change emmissions...so i don't see why they'd be illegal

i would also like to know this..
For the person who originally posted this. I am currently running the greddy kit unintercooler, however I do have a BOV. Get an intercooler it is the next thing on my list. It is a real pain in the *** to have the car run completely differently depending on the heat and/or humidity. The intercooler makes everything thing run more efficently and consistently.

BOV's usually have a provision for making the bled air recirculate...

Most just opt not to, to have the "bov sound".

I think "diverter valve" and "bov" are synonyms... Not positive but they certainly serve the same purpose... which is an important one as mentioned...

I doubt the cali legality thing... I think greddy is just cheap.

yes, a dirverter valve and a BOV are similar...

the Greddy Type S is acutally a divertervalve...where as the HKS SSQ is NOT. it is a BOV only...because it can't be bled back into line with the intake...well..i'm sure it COULD be...but it's not MADE to be, haha

actually hks did make an adapter to recirculate for the SSQ they said it was specifically for the eclipse..

Those are stock cars, from the factory, that meet emission requirements in California. Adding a turbo kit to a Civic is a little different. Not sure how exactly a BOV is bad, though.

A few people got it right. The factory "diverter" valves do not vent to the atmosphere... They vent back into the charge pipe. This is perfectly legal. Venting air to the atmosphere is not. Don't ask me why.. All you did was take atmosphere air, compress it, and then send it back.... Cali laws for you.

Get an intercooler and BOV... If you're gonna turbo your car do it right.... Plus I know once you get addiceted to boost you're gonna want more and more, so you're gonna need the IC and BOV anyways....

BOV are illegal because it vents to the atmosphere.

Same with running an external gate setup and just running a dump tube for that.

BOV's are stupid anyways. It's actually BETTER to run the BOV/deriveter valve back into the intake side to keep the turbo spooling between shifts. To get technical, BOV's are, uh oh, shall I dare say the word....rice.

It sounds cool, but performance drops because the air would be better used if it kept the turbo spooling. That wouldn't stop me from running a BOV into open air tho

while I understand it vents... all it's venting is intake air.. which has had no gas much added much less is combustion air... The only valid reason I could think of would be that LOTS of turbos leak oil into the compressor housing.

It's only "better" if the diverter tube/valve can flow the air volume you have built up in the system... IE if there's too much then it won't be able to flow it out fast enough to prevent compressor surge.. but on a smaller turbo (like most civic apps) I agree a bov that vents is rice... ESPECIALLY those "super sound" bov's
