Rear drums spueak...
its been going on for a month now, the rear drums squeak like hell! does this mean they need cleaning? if so how would i go about doing this myself? but after driving the car for about 10-20 minutes the squeaking does stop. ha yes i am a newbie for breaks....thanks!
Could be dust in the drums. Pull the drums and wash them out with brake clean. Do not blow them out as the dust most likely will contain asbestos, can you say lung cancer. Also clean the shoes and retainers with the brake clean. Put itt back together and all should be good. It the shoe are excessively worn replace them and have the drums turned.
Which nut??? The rear drum is held on by the wheel/studs/nuts. Take the wheel off. The drum is usually tight on the hub. A sharp rap with a hammer will usually break it loose. If its really stuck there are two jack screw (threaded holes) stick a couple of bolts and pull the drum off. If the brakes are tightly adjusted, the drum may be held on by a ridge near the edge of the drum. You may have to back of the adjuster too get them off.
