Default Rear wheel stud

My friend has a 95 coupe his rear wheel stud broke on his drum brakes. I was wondering if this is something we can change our selves or should we take it somewhere? I can easily figure stuff out, but before i start i just wanna know if its worth taking apart?

Well if its a must to repair it your going to need to take it to a brake/front end place. But your looking at paying 65 - 80 an hour with 2 hour minium. You cant really do it yourself because they need to be pressed in and out. I heard of shaving some of the hub so they could slide through the back without taking off the hub. If you do that you have to hit those as straight as you can with a level hammer and the same way putting them back in.

wow, i just hate when people give false info.
as far as replacing the studs on a rear hub, its easy, you can diy.
only the front hubs have to be taken to a shop.

If im giving false info, correct it. From what i know and sticking to until otherwise known you have to press them.

On the rear stud replacement is not too bad.

Pull the drum off by putting the two jack screws into the drum (cant remember what the thread size is). They are located between the studs near the center of the drum. Tightening these bolts (you have to come up with the two bolts) pushes the drum off the shoes and hub. Be careful and hit the drum with a dead blow hammer while evenly tightening the bolts. The impact helps the shoes slip over the outer wear ring.

Removal:

With the drum off, pry open the bearing cap (outer center of the hub). Take the spindle nut off. Then slide the hub off the spindle. The outer wheeel bearing will fall out in your hand. Try to keep it as dirt/grit free as possible. Be careful not to spread any grease onto the shoes. Drive the old stud out with a hammer with the hub supported from underneath.

Replacement:

I have used an old lug nut with the flat face against the hub flange face and a couple of washers to pull the new stud into the hub. Hit that with an impact and it draws the stud into proper position. Be sure to lube the treads with antiseize to keep the nut from gaulding to the new stud. I have hammered them in but generally either have them properly pressed in (auto machine shop $5) or use the old lug nut trick.

If you take your time and are careful its not that bad!

be careful not to take the guts out of the drum brake cause it can be a pain in the *** putting it all back together,. not hard but maybe you should examin the drum brake before it falls apart to see how everything works, cause its easy for that stuff to fall out with the cover off.
even the front studs are easy, all you need is a slide hammer. youcan usally rent them from autozone/kragen for free or like 5 dollars a day. takes like 5 min to pop the front out
