Default HELP Horrible Exhaust Rattle

I recently got my car running with my b18c1 swap. I have an APEXi DUNK exhaust setup, JDM ITR 4-1 header, with a carsound custom cat, and we bought some bolts and nuts from home depot and bolted it up, we didn't use any spring loaded bolts though.

Whenever the motor is at certain RPMs the exhaust hits spots on the underbody of my hatch, anyway I can get this to stop ? ITR exhaust bolts ?? Also, the muffler starts hitting the rear bumper too and causing big noises.........

what spring loaded bolts should I buy ITR ones ?? I need something, the rattle comes mainly from my rear passenger side, where the pipe bends to go back toward the muffler......

I think I have the bolts on the cat so tight, that it shakes the whole exhaust system ?? Would bolts fix this, or do I need to do more ?

I would have to say get a spring bolt kit. See if any progress. If still rattling, check rubber on hangers to make sure there not all worn out. After that, try to get the car lifted and hit the exhaust from the header to muffler, if you hear rattling youll know where it is comming from. Hope this helps

also check to see if it's your O2 sensor hitting your new/different shift linkages...

mine does the same thing with my evo on my teg. i replaced the rear rubber hangers and it stopped the noise for a while...but then it came back. happens mostly when the AC is on. since i have the spring loaded bolts, and it still happens to me, i kind of doubt that you buying some for your car would help your problem...but it might help a little.

All of the above ideas are excellent places to check. Make sure you know EXACTLY where the sound is coming from, you WILL have to get underneath the car while the motor is running, and have a 2nd person play with the gas pedal a little bit to hear the noise. Sometimes banging on the exhaust piping can make the rattle as well.

I have one more thing to add on the list: The catylytic converter itself. The honeycomb material inside could be rattling. It happened for the 2nd time with my CatCo cat. I ended up gutting it. Piece of crap... Heh, actually it turns out I was running a little too rich, and since catco sucks at making bolt-in cats, the honeycomb fell apart.

Simply remove the cat, and look inside. If it's screwed, you'll see it. Good Luck!

hey if you are using different shift linkage, you might have dropped one of the bolts onto the heat shield running above the exhaust all the way back... Iknow my friend did this, and it took a while to get it out!

Check the tightness of the bolts and the condition of the rubber hangers. But MrTodd could be correct about the CatCo cat as I have had numerous friends who had problems with them. Good luck.
