B16 wiring question
i have most of the engine wired up. i have 4 extra plugs in the back of the harness. the instructions i am going by say that there should be 3 extra. the other one (green plug) plugs into the knock sensor. so i believe it should go there. but the instructions also say i need to run a wire for the knock sensor to the ECU. the plug has 2 wires going to it. a black one and a blue/yellow? one. i am wiring a B16 into a 90 DX Civic. so where does the green plug go? if its the knock sensor, then do i cut the 2 wires and run them to the ECU (black to ground and blue/yellow? to ECU). sorry if it sounds confusing
Yes, you sound confusing.
the Knock sensor uses one wire. It is shielded so it looks thicker than the other wires. The knock sensor uses a green round plug and it plugs on the back of the block up near the head. You do have to run the knock sensor wire to the ECU since
the DX you have did not come with a knock sensor from the factory.
One thing I did back when I knew squat about wiring was to label each plug as I disconected it. that way I knew what it was or at lest where it came from.

ok thanks
but then what is the plug for? it goes in the knock sensor and its green but from what youre saying is that its not a knock sensor since the DX didnt have one. so i guess my question is - where is there another place for a plug that looks exactly like the one for the knock sensor that is right around the oil filter

The DPFI engine uses some weird vacuum pots that have plugs.
If I rememeber right it might be one of the plugs you end up not needing.
Double check before you go cutting wires!

well it says i should have 3 extra plugs. i have them. but i also have this other green plug that is right with the 3 plugs i dont use
if it says you should have 3 extra plugs it's wrong. You should have 4. 2 are on the VTEC solenoid (One for oil pressure and one for solenoid activation) Oil pressure is a two wire and one of them has to be grounded. The other plugs come from the knock sensor which is at the back of the block and it's a green 1 wire plug and the other plug is for the secondary o2 sensor. Make sure you hook up the secondary O2 sensor to the ECU and don't just tap it into the other O2 sensor this will cause the motor to run improperly. The left over white plug that is remaining from the D15B2 is normal. Just tape it off or cut it off and don't worry about it. It's not needed.
