Default mugen ecu

how much would a mugen ecu help with horsepower and torque, my friend has a s2000 with intake, vafc, and he just got the ecu. now he says that his car runs 11.5-12's. is this true?

He is pulling your leg..no way in hell... And if he can even afford a $1500+ ECU upgrade? All I know is that the "supposed" Mugen ECU is very expensive... and it's meant for road racing, not drag racing...

He's got to be lying...the rearend couldn't stand up to the kind of launch it would take to run that time. Like the other guy said, this ecu was designed more for road racing. The comptech S2000 which is an awesome car can only run a 13.3 (See the Car and Driver article called Fourgasm). It would take a lot of custom rearend work and more engine mods to run those kind of times.

he might run 11's in the 1/8th, that's about it.

ecu will do little for him at this point. it's not for drag racing at all.

If you are even gulliable enough to think he could run those times with those mods, or anything like them, you need a severe reality check.

Assuming the best case scenario with those "mods" and the ECU... he might be making 215whp. That wouldn't even get him into the mid 13's without divine intervention, unless your buddy means the 1/8 mile.

EDIT: BTW - the VAFC wouldn't be very usefull in conjunction with the Mugen ECU. The Mugen ECU "makes" more power by running a leaner fuel map and a more aggressive spark map. We are talking single digit horspower improvements at best with any one of these mods.
