bored & thinking out loud.
i see all these aftermarket parts for Honda's. I see them used on drag strips. Isee them used at autocrosses. But, is there any road racing class that runs highly modified Honda's? I don't have my SCCA book in front of me, but i think the "GT" class allows extensive mods. Are Honda's competitive in this class? Is it a popular class? What other clubs? Nasa, H1?

NASA has the SU, or Super Unlimited classes for heavy mods. i think there is SU-1, SU-2, SU-3, based on displacement.
only thing is, there usually aren't too many SUs at a race. could get a little boring, from a competition standpoint....

yeah, that seems to be the problem.
it looks like a hybrid H1 car would be the way to go for a competitive class while still being able to build something. it's probably the way i'm going to go.
But GT (SCCA) & SU (NASA) seem to be the only claases that allow extensive engine/chassis work.
with all of the aftermarket support for Honda's, i'm surprised that the ECHC hasn't created 1 or 2 more classes for drivers who want to go a step (or 2 or 3) further with their car. seem welding, wild cams, headwork, fabricated parts......etc.
seeing fully "built" cars at the auto-x's & drag strip, i would love to see them at the road racing tracks as well.

Cams and headwork are allowed in H1. But the reason you dont see it is because thats not what ECHC is about. Its a grassroots, fun series. And believe me, these guys are breaking enough **** at 215 whp... do you think they really want 300?

An HU class was "attempted" last year. However, the pain felt because of it hardly makes it worth it. Long story, but more classes is not a good thing, IMO. I could see some "rearrangement", but additions wouldn't be a good idea.

what about the ITE class in SCCA? I know you run with Vipers and turbo cars and such but it would certainly be competition!!

Thats a region-by-region basis, and usually its to give cars that were built for other series to compete with scca.

Some SCCA regions also run Super Production (SPU, for smaller-engined cars) but as RJ mentioned, it is not nationally recognized. It ends up being a catch-all class but some regions (NE?) have more than a few hybrid Hondas running.
EDIT - SPU isn't even "semi" popular, frankly....

We do have ITE up here. I think that's what most of them run in. I know Yasu (ATS) runs his civic up here in the NER region. I imagine he's in the same class that most of the hybrid hondas would run in. I think he's in ITE but he might be in SPU. Not sure on that.

sorry for the confusion, was just asking with SU a build integra bored to 2.0L would run.
Honda Challenge requires a factory honda bottom end. by bottom end has JE and eagle in it. and bored out.
