How much should I pay to do resurface rotors and change pads for the front and rear?
Hey guys. Can you tell me if $190 is too much to pay for a mechanic to resurface front and rear rotors while putting in new front and rear pads that I'll supply? I'm using Hawk HPS pads and the mechanic is charging $40 per axle to resurface the rotors. Doesn't that seem too high? I've done lots of work with him and it's weird to get quoted that high. But anyway, is there another place that can resurface rotors for cheap? Though I've done my own mods, brakes need to be done by experienced people or you get uneven wear, warpage, bleeding issues, and etc. so I'm not trying to do it myself yet. Thanks!
at the most i'd say it should be about $50 for the front pads and $15 each for resurfacing the rotors, take doing the rear brake pads into account and $190 seems just about right.... maybe a tad expensive but if you trust the shop it's not too bad.
if it is a 90-97 accord i would say that is about right because you gotta pull the hub and re install it .... and remember your mechanic doesent only make his money on labor charges so when you bring your own parts to him your probally going to pay a little more for labor
if it is a 98-03 accord then that is too much

Not true. Experience doesn't necessarily equate to a quality job. If the rotors are machined correctly, and you are using new pads for the correct model car, uneven wear won't be a problem. Warpage usually is due to excessive heat and/or dragging pads from sticking calipers. As far as bleeding, it's not even required if you're just doing pads and rotors.
Even if you don't have the tools, for $190, you can buy the tools, take the rotors to a reputable machine shop, install the pads yourself, and know the job is done right. Brakes are one thing that will really hurt your wallet if you have a shop do it. The parts are pretty cheap.
