Default Sound cuts when volume is up

Ok I attached rca's to my stock headunit. I have a pioneer 760watt 4 ch running the incar speakers, now for some reason when the music gets turned up the pioneer volume drops way down and then flicks between real loud and real quiet. Can't figure out what the problem is, please help. It used to work fine

Thanks
Dan

Maybe it's some sort of self-protection built into the amp so it doesn't blow when it's overworked?
