Default 5 Lug Conversion - Pros & Cons?

What are your opinions on getting a 5 lug conversion?

Pros & Cons? Do you have to upgrade your brakes when you do this?
It seems like many production cars in the GS-R pricerange have 5 lug wheels but the Integra doesn't . . .

Anybody on the Integra board have this mod?

(ps - I'm just wanting some general info. I don't want to rice out my car so I can tell people it is a 4 door JDM type R )

I personally believe that the cost of the setup outweighs the advantages. If you are honestly looking to upgrade your brakes, you can order the same setup from fastbrakes in a 4lug setup. If you want the handling of an ITR, you can accomplish this with a well matched set of springs and shocks and sway bar.

So its really up to you where you wish to spend your money.

I think it's a cool thing to do, but generally a waste of money. Unless you have the perfect opportunity to change (ie: insurance) ..

To me, it's like a $700 valve cover. Not that extreme, but..

Default Pros and cons?

Pro - You may have a wider selection or rims to choose from with a 5 lug conversion.
Pro - Educated people on Integras (especially those that critique every little picture put on this board) will notice your upgrade/conversion.
Pro - Always nice to be different.

Con - Could be expensive?
Con - Money spent on conversion will not affect overall performance of car.
Con - People may become "more interested" in your car.

The brakes are awesome on 5 lug.

Also, stock ITR wheels look great.

But I agree, it is expensive.

the only pros. on a 5 lug conversition is looks. braking or accerlation will still be the same as with 4 lug. its kinda hard to explaing why but you will have the same stopping distance with 4 lug vs. 5 lug. its also a big waste of money.

Just to add another Pro: having 5-lugs (vs. 4-lugs) better distributes the torque on the lugs and the wheel bearing so the bearing wears less. Not a very noticable effect, especially on the street, but a pro none-the-less.

Con would still be that it's an expensive endeavor.

The extra lug is generally considered good because it can handle more horsepower. Each lug will have to deal with less force. Of course this is if you are making 300 hp and more on slicks.

it is heavier but... it also does make your stopping distance shorter... at least in my experience... the itr brakes are much better... to ad to it... another thing is it does look nice

but thats also a bad thing... i disagree that people MAY become more interested in your car... they WILL!

Ok, so change may to will. I made it a con, because more attention is not always better. This is especially true for cars that already have a high theft rate.

yea... its definately a con... id rather have a 4-lug that no one notices for that fact... cuz anyone thats knows their ****... and see's a 5-lug... means u have something under the hood as well... no one puts a 5-lug on just for looks...

but the breaking is far superior to the gsr

Default Pros and cons?

How much better is the braking on a Type-R than a GSR?

There a lot of reasons to do a 5 lug...yes, bigger brakes, but also better handling in the corners. The suspension is a whole lot stiffer, unlike the stock GS-R's.

I agree it also looks cool, but if you're not going to do it for the performance aspect, why bother.

Default Pros & Cons?

5 Lug Conversion = Better handling?

How so? I am not quite sure that a 5 lug conversion means stiffer suspension. I could be wrong though.

From my understanding the bushings on the suspension are stiffer and you can put the swaybar without problems making it stronger.

how bout having to loosen/tighten 1 more lugnut per wheel? I'd say thats another con, although trivial...

If you're doing the 5 lug the right way, you get the complete suspension plus the bushings kit. I didn't do the 5 lug on my first car, a 90 integ, but I did the bushings. I could seriously take a corner rated for 35 way above 90...not that I tried of course! You could ram into the side of that car and it would NOT move.

hye guyuenvy i like your car, but i'm not digging that white rim.... is this a new trend?

anyways, i heard from around my area that some hardcore racers with ITRs are doing 4 lug conversions because it's lighter... can anyone confirm this?

ohh sh t some hard core racers are doing 4 ;ug conversions we all better watch out on the streets

the diference in the 4 lug and 5 lug is about 5 ounces. there isnt a big weight difference. There are pros and cons on ths subject the question is it right for u. Personaly i wouldnt get it because i would like large slicks. If I didnt use slicks i would defenitly get it becasue it looks tight. The brakes are good but u could just upgrade 4 lug brakes. Oh well it all depends on u and what u like

well if the difference is only 5 ounces then i guess those racers got duped into thinking they would get rid of a lot of weight by changing to 4 lug
