I rode in Karl's BMW beater, now my water heater is busted...
...and the $E-R is now leaking oil from somewhere.
I'm not making this up people. Stay the **** away from Karl...

Adam swears he thinks the hoax is bogus. I submit to you, though, this weekend's fatalities:
- Slagg's engine (again)
- Warren's engine (again)
- Adam's 944 engine
- Nicholson's water heater
I don't *think* anything else failed catastrophically...and most of this stuff happened before I got to the track.
Side note - the $1000 BMW made the trip to and from, along with multiple trips into town to get things, without a single problem and in vinyl-lined, air-conditioned comfort.

I've decided to take the antivenom approach.
I'm going to spend as much time with Karl as possible. Kind of like injecting yourself with rattlesnake venom to build immunity.

You have an excellent hypothesis Scott. When I lived 5 minutes from him, my chit never broke. You *may* actually have to live within a certain radius of him.

I go to the store to get a pizza and beer after my cold shower. All I wanted was to eat some pizza, drink some brown ale, and watch the F1 race. As I lift the 6-pack out of the car, the bottom falls out and the bottles fall on my concrete driveway. Brown ale and shards of glass all over my feet...

Apparently, your BMW is infected but is what we call a "carrier" - doesn't suffer from any symptons, but can spead the disease none-the-less.
The frightening thing here is I'm convinced that this ailment is so contagious that can be spread over large distances without even direct contact with Karl. I recently just realized that my Integra absolutely died and refused to crank as soon as the decision was made to take it to NC for some dyno pulls before going to BeaveRun in June. Just the thought of stopping in Karl's home state was enough to infect and maim my car with the Karl disease, hundreds of miles away.
[Marlin Brando "Col. Kurtz" voice] the horror.... the horror......[/voice off]

I'm conflicted...
Exhibit A: Shook Karl's hand while I was torquing down the right front wheel. Promptly bent every suspension member on that corner when I smacked the wall at the entrance to T1.
Exhibit B: Watched as Karl ratcheted my car down to the trailer (Thanks to everyone for the help BTW). Six hours later I arrived home, looked back and whaddayaknow--the car's still on the trailer.
Maybe this whole thing's a myth afterall.

Gentlemen, let me remind you that what we hear about here in H-T'ville probably and woefully underestimates the full impact of the "Karl Curse" -- the tip of the iceberg, if you will. Think about it, if we were to institute a full-scale reporting system -- like what health departments have to do for communicable disease, say for example, pneumonia, measles, or gonnorhea
-- one designed to document a freak occurances of the car-related and other varieties, we might likely see something that resembles an epidemic. We could then construct a case-control study to examine factors related to knowing Karl, talking to Karl, being within a certain proximity to Karl, knowing someone who knows Karl, Karl touching/riding in your car, and other variables yet to be fully understood. Conceivably, this could amount to someone's life's work -- potentially ground breaking, career making, and Nobel prize material...
Casey, who shudders to think about it.....

Wait a second. Karl sent me an IM here yesterday, and I'm racing this weekend at BeaveRun... Maybe I should cancel my registration so my car doesn't get totalled.

I saw Karl looking at T1 from the paddock prior to your hit. Coincidence???
Seriously, you gave us a scare... walls are no joke. Glad you're ok and hope the car is easily fixable

FYI
At VIR Karl gave me some gas left over from his weekend.
My car is fine, I am fine. In fact my car never sounded better (until it got a shot of 100 octane this weekend).
No other the other hand, every time I talk with Dan Schlickenmeyer of AI fame, his car breaks down in the race.
I have banned myself from saying hi or anything else to him until Sunday evening when it is all over.

I have more suspension pieces and fenders than I probably should...just wasn't smart enough to bring them to the track with me.
I attribute to Karl:
...bent upper control arm
...bent lower control arm
...bent radius rod
...bent knuckle
...snapped halfshaft
...bent fender
...pretty blue paintjob that ain't so blue any more (just I'm blue
)
Thankfully it was just a glancing blow, and I think I escaped without any front frame damage (still have to look at the right rear though). Far more scary that hitting the wall was just sitting out there, perpendicular to all the cars braking for T1. I felt very vulnerable.
You can bet I'll be busting my *** this week to get the car ready for the MARRS double this weekend.

And if there's such a thing as "target fixation" I left a mighty nice target for future racers.
BTW--I don't want to hear anything about how well those Hawk Blues worked, Carbotech Guy!

Exactly why the first words out of my mouth on the radio were "Start, go waving yellow" well before you had even come to a stop. Once the cars right behind you were through, it was fine... but that definitely could've been ugly during the ~3 sec immediately after your hit.
Anyway good luck with the repairs and have fun at the MARRS double!

I'd rather talk about the new ******* Franza ripped *everyone* in turn one on Sunday.
And if you would like something other than Blues for the double, you should call me, like, yesterday.

Looked more like 50-75 feet to me. It was many car lengths later. He was waiting WAY past start finish to begin slowing down from 140mph. I though he was going to be shaking Jon's hand more than once. One time, I absolutely swear I thought his brakes failed and he was going to hit the wall. And then it was like he pulled a parachute and thew out a boat anchor while driving into a sand pit. Maybe Jason will post a clip.
