I currently havea 89 civic hatch, with the shitty d15b engine, i want to know whats the best option for a engine swap.... eg.. b16a turbocharged ? or something like a b18c n/a .... ???? im interested to know if anyone has donea swap for a 89 civic...

 

Depends on what you want it for....A b16a NA is pretty cheap and can readily do many mods to pump the power up to about 175 HP to the tire....b18c will cost you a bit more, but you can do a Frankenstein combo with LS/VTEC....Not as many $$$$$$$$$....

 

I would go with the B18c. You would already be getting good hp out of B18c even though it is a bit more $$$. B16a is not too expensive, but then you want to tc it. It would cost you more all together with the combo of the B16a and the turbo.

i got a 88 hb dx with b16a and in process of doing lsvtec. i would go with b16a if you want power just to **** around with. but if you want to go all out or fast fast go for lsvtec or crvtec but its gonna cost more money. lsvtec or crvtec will certainly kill the b18c or b16a on full stock. i see many civics like mines runs b18c or b16a with lots of mods and still get balled up my stock lsvtec STOCK.

The B20Z comes from the late model CRV's there are B20A's out there from late 80's preludes but they are crap. Don't even think of getting one.
