Skunk2 Intake Manifold Install question
Me and a couple friends are in the process of installing a skunk2 intake manifold on a 95 GSR. We ran into a problem, on the stock intake manifold, theres like a little tank with like 3 vacum hoses and a plug, can that be taken out, and vacum hoses plugged? Now, next theres this thing, a sensor thing, it came off the stock manifold, and there seems to be no place for it on the skunk2 manifold. I scaned in a pic from the helms manual to show you guys what it looks like, heres the link.. http://albums.photopoint.com/j/ViewP...p=52921849&f=0 and heres a non-blue pic.. http://albums.photopoint.com/j/ViewP...p=52921931&f=0 .. What is this thing? Whats its purpose? Do i need to put it on? WHere do I go about putting it on the skunk2? If its not needed, what do I do with the plug? Now, the car starts more or less with that thing out, but it like bogs or something, it revs up and down a bit like 1000RPM, and then it just accelerates alot, whats causing this? How can I fix all of this? Thanks in advance for any help
the stuff related to the gsr im secondary runners is not needed.
you should be able to get something out of this: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=57523
i'm having what sounds like the same idle fluctuation problem, mine goes up and down, up and down forever, regardless of engine temp. <allcaps>extremely annoying!!!</allcaps>.
i'm beginning to suspect this goes beyond my defective throttle body (plate sticking open).
idle air control valve? fast idle thermo valve?? help!

the fluctuation is probably from a vacuum leak.....i had the same problem after i put my s2 manifold on....did you use a new gasket and make sure the bottom bolts are tighten enough.....they are hard to get to so you might have not tightened them enough.....that was my problem
i had the same prob with the fluctuating idle after i put on my skunk2 mani
and at the time i put on a new TB gasket. it took us forever to figure it out so
we took off the gasket used honda bond gasket sealant stuff and *poof* perfect idle and no CEL.
so i would check that too.

thanks. the im was put on with a new gasket and with the head off so i wanna assume they were easily able to tighten everything. what's another place for a vacuum leak or what should i check next? iac? i could swear it's been getting worse over the last seven days if that tells you anything...
well thank god i have no cel (yet?) i can see goop that i assume is sealant...
i'm just gonna have to take it in and have them look at it. i just want to make sure what the problem is before i swap out the tb in case that's not really the main problem. thanks.

found this on an old post:
this is similar to my sound except mine is once every two seconds. as if you brought the revs up to 2500ish and let your foot off the gas and repeat. guess i have a leak (plus tb prob).
If you have a manifold leak, your idle will be horrible. It sort of sounds like somebody blipping the throttle about twice per second.

The fluctuating idle problem could be caused by a number of things. If you guys tried the other things mentioned and it still fluctuates, try turning the idle adjustment screw on on top of the throttle body. The screw might be sealed from the factory but you can scrape off the seal and adjust. One more thing...make sure the throttle body gasket is not on backwards.
thanks. during install, wee turned this all the way up to compensate for throttle body stickage. this morning i loosened it until it was flush with the tb. no change in idle speed or quality although it's sorta hard to tell exactly what the hell your idle is when it's going up and down like this. anyway, it didn't improve anything. not sure if i should continue to unscrew this. last night i raised fuel pressure from 45 to 50 wot. this also helped nothing (that i know of). this is extremely frustrating! my car sounds ridiculous!! now i'm having a little trouble locating a tb. can't wait 'til this nightmare is over...
as far as i know. everything i can see looks right, to the best of my knowledge. since i didn't do the install myself i'm kinda guessing based on various pics and posts and my service manual. thanks.

I have a 95 GSR that I put a skunk2 on.
I had hesitation problems with mine and found I had to lower my fuel pressure to get things to work right. Some say to get things to really run right you need to get an ecu from a car without secondary runner manifolds. I am looking to get a hondata system and put in a turbo soon. the skunk2 on a stock gsr really only hurts things rather than improve power (sorry!). I still get the slightest bit of hesitation and stutter at around 2000rpm in all gears. my idle is fine (make sure you do an ecu reset once you have you fuel pressure set to about 39psi (with vacuum hose on, 49 with it off and plugged--this is low stock settings according to the manual).

right. the more mods you have the better the results will be, especially head work and cams. even better result with a "single butterfly" program ecu (and dyno tuning, etc.).
You can completely remove the IAB unit (the plasic black and silver canister) that's clamped on the underside of the stock manifold. I just made sure and covered the sensor connector with electrical tape that it connected to for safety sake.
The sensor thing you point out must be moved from the stock manifold to the Skunk2. There is a place on the Skunk2 for that sensor. It's your IAT (intake air temperature) sensor and is definitely important. I had to undo some of the OEM wire loom to get it the sensor connector to reach though. I also would like to point out there's a good place to mount that unit to on the underside of the Skunk2 manifold.

the thing he has circled in his first photo is the evap purge control solenoid valve, right? i don't know...everything is starting to blur together at this point.
i got every thing off an the new manifold is on the only question i have is do you need a brass t fitting for coolant hoses and a plastic t fitting for vaccumm because on the bottom of the manifold where the big coolant hose plugs in there is a little spout too
