Default For FYI, How can you tell if you have a bent valve?

Still a first year with a stick, let alone Type R. So how can you tell if you have a bent valve? Just shifted from 5th to 3rd for the first time at 80mph while meeting up with another ITR in Houston (Adam? Black ITR wherever you are???). Is that safe? Hit about 9,000 rpms.

you can REALLY tell if u have a bent valve, idles low, hard to start, u can tell... shifting from 5th to 3rd at 80 isn't bad, but that shouldn't put u at 9000 rpm... even so, did u hit the rev limiter? i've hit my rev limiter like 3 times, all by accident, just as long as u don't constantly go past redline... type-rs are made to handle that, just don't abuse it

If it is bad enough OBDII will tell you like mine did finally after 2years of constant banging on it....

You'll have to do a leakdown test if you suspect anything....

You'll most likely get a check engine light.. It will be a code that says misfiring on one of the cylinders. You'll keep getting this....

I unfortuanelty know this from experience. i had 2 bent valves fixed this spring...

do a compression test. that will tell. you should be around 190-220 psi.

If the tach indicated 9000rpm, you were probably at ~8700 rpm. Nothing to worry about I would guess.

When it sounds like a diesel engine, you know it's screwed.

Correct me if I am wrong, but can't we get about 90-92 mph in 3rd gear. If you went to 3rd from 5th doing 80 mph, my guess is that you hit about 8100 rpms or a little higher. I wouldn't worry about it unless your car is idleing funny and your having a really hard time trying to get it started. I bent some valves in my car a couple of months ago and it was almost impossible to keep it started at low rpm's. I had to drive my car home because Acura didn't send a flat bed to get me (long story). My car seemed fine at highway speeds, but when I was getting off of my exit my car died and I lost the steering and brakes and almost hit the curb. The dealer told me that each cylinder is suppose to have 180 in each one. I'm sure your car is fine.
