the fill bolt on my s80 tranny will tighten but not all the way like it is supposed to. It is my fault, I over tightened it and now it turns freely, then will kind of catch and tighten but not sufficiently enough for my taste. Now after a drive when I park the car, fluid barely drips from around the area where the bolt threads into the case. I tried thread sealant and that didn't take care of it either. I guess what I want to know, is what is my cure. The bolt is a M20-1.5, is there a different M20 that would hold better in the casing>? OR should I not be too concernedd about it since it is the fill bolt and not the drain bolt>? I am frustrated and do not want to pull a tranny just to replace a case that is otherwise perfect. Idea and suggestions will be much appreciated. Thank you -Jason
Remove the bolt carefully, clean off any busted threads, and then get an oversize bolt of the same size. They usually are denoted with an 'OS' on the bolt to signify oversize. They are a bit hard to find but your local auto parts store and sometimes your local oil change place will have them. I wonder why oil change places have them?

yeah I cleaned off the broken threads, it is the case itself that is messed up. steel bolt vs. aluminumcase is like mike tyson vs. andy dick. The case just got screwed. ANyway nno
I didn't use a tourque wrench I was in a hurry an dlesson learned. I'll try the OS bolt thanks guys. Jason any other ideas.

the fill bolt is a monster... how hard were you twisting to mess that fella up?
assnickle has a good idea.... try that first.

Honda also sells Honda Lock in three different flavors.
I think Honda Lock 2 allows the thread to lock once cured, but the result can be reversed.
Honda Lock 3 is a "permanent" one.

You fellas are all awesome. I decided against the oversize bolt for fear of little tiny metal things from threading in something oversized that the case might happily place in all of my fluid. Anyhow, the honda bond trick worked great. Cleaned the bolt good, and put a nice even layer of the magic goo on the bolt and the threads in the case= PROBLEM SOLVED
