i took a look under my hood and there are some small tubes that arent hooked up to anything. my friend said they were vacuum tubes. i tried to find diagrams online, but couldnt find any. can you all help me? thanks.

 

make sure everything on the intake manifold is sealed up and connected to something.

I would advise you to take off your intake arm and put your hand on the throttle body. the motor should stall. if it does not, then you have a vacuum leak.
