Default rear fender lip liner removal - prevent rust?

I'm aware that the crx has a common rear wheel well rust problem. Due to age or design, i'm not sure. I've heard that the plastic liner in wheel well traps moisture. Just wondering what the general consensus is... to remove or not to remove this piece? tia.

I remove mine in the spring/summer/fall, and put them back on in the winter. They throw around alot of stones/salt on the roads around here in the winter, it will chip up your wheel wells and cause rust. I have been doing this for about 4 years now and havent had any rust issues.

As much as I understand that your doing it to prevent the chips but if you think about it putting them on in winter would be the worst time cause then it would hold basically salt water up against your car...That is unless of course you take them off wash your car wash those then put them on when they are dry.....

I took mine off too late when I first bought the car I washed it all the time but had never taken them out so even though I was washing it those were still holding in all the crap and also the moisture I think if you want to keep them your best bet is to wash your car and them let it all dry then put them back in but me personally would just take them out and leave them out.

alright, I took off the lip liners and sure enough there was wet mud-like junk underneath. Hasnt rained in a couple days so it does indeed look like it traps moisture. They are gonna stay off. Thanks for all the replies.
