I'm retarded, which way is advanced?
engine spins counter-clockwise sooooo.....turning cam gear away from the firewall, counter-CW, makes the valves open sooner = advanced?

Doesn't matter how you do this... If you leave the sprocket attached & skip a tooth, counterclockwise, that's advanced.
If you use adjustable sprockets, think about it this way: Hold the sprocket & rotate the camSHAFT counterclockwise. That way it doesn't sound like it's backwards.
