oh, how i need a new motor, let me count the ways.....
#1 170psi
#2 140psi
#3 100psi
#4 180psi
those are the compression test results i came up with last night.
according to my manual, a healthy d16z6 should have about 185psi +/-20psi. how far down in power am i? also, if the motor isn't burning any oil, would it be safe to assume that a fresh head would get me back most of my lost power?
anyone want to buy me a new motor before nationals??

nate I'm sure it's not much help, but I'm going to have a complete longblock ++ from a 92 dx hatch..it's going to be out and sitting in my garage by next week, and anything you want from it I'd be more than glad to send your way free of charge..not what you want I know, but just thought I'd let you know.

while a fresh d15b probably makes more power then my current lump, i'm going to hold off. .rj, you sell that teg yet? i'm gonna need a winter beater if i decide to rebuild my current motor. i've been wanting a winter beater for a while now. now i've got a reason to _need_ one.

Do a leak down test. A friend of mine had number like yours and found there was a small blow in the head gasket between cylinders 2&3. The engine was bitchen again after a new gasket.
Since your not burning oil, it could also be that you just need a valve job.

We need a new motor.
Bent the rod in #2. Still don't know how.
A new head gasket aint gonna fix this puppy.
Anybody know where I can get a low mileage DOHC Neon motor on the cheap?

are Neon motors anything other than cheap? Oh, you mean market value, not actual worth...

Actually this Neon motor has been a great one. None of the issues Neons usually have. Now bending rods is something that is apparently a new one to everybody and NOT a typical Neon issue. I'm clueless as to how this happened. Renee actually made her best run of the day just prior to the break (as in it started making alot of racket as she tripped the finish lights).
No missed shift. No spinning and rolling backwards without getting the clutch in. This is why I'm hesitant to replace the whole motor and am just thinking about spending the extra $$$ to get this one fixed. It has a HARD 130K on it and has not been plagued by typical Neon issues.
Its a mystery. Unless the rod isn't *bent" but something just plain old came loose in there. Dunno yet. Haven't opened it up.
Scott, who's Neon crapped out just in time for the Mopar contingency program to come back in full force <sigh>.

I thought rod knock and Neons were always a part of the same sentence. I've heard/seen two different Neons with this problem, and I'm not around many of them...
This isn't rod knock. Its rod crash.
When Renee came off course I heard it all the way across the parking lot.
To paraphrase Dale Jr. - Some damn thing done broke in there.
