for some reason, i have an intermitent ignition issue with my 89 CRX si. The only mods are a y8 exh. mani and a k/n filter. the car will start and run fine if the key is held to the start position and the starter is allowed to freewheel, but as soon as the key is turned to the "run" position, the motor dies. All fuses are ok, and all wiring harness connections are secure. I am thinking the ignition switch is bad, but before i replace it, i was wondering if anyone from this discussion forum has had a similiar problem, or has any other ideas. thanks for any input into this situation.
So when this happens the starter turns the flywheel, but is there actual ignitition/plugs firing? I remember every Civic from this generation had a recall on the igniter, was your's ever updated? Maybe that's going causing the intermittent starts...

The engine will run with the starter freewheeling when the key is turned to the start position. The engine idles, and will rev if I blip the throttle - in this case, the starter is turning, but is not engaging the flywheel. I have no idea if the igniter has ever been replaced, the car has 180k on it. I will call a couple of the honda dealerships areoud here and find out if they can replace it. Thanks for the help
