woo woo, compression test turned out good!
i just got finished compression testing my motor and i got 1: 205 2: 210 3: 210 4:210...i was very pleased with the numbers...those ARE good numbers, right? oh yah, this is a b16a motor...

yes
posted it up... maybe you ppl can help me out too...
just did a compression check on the gsr... the compression for all 4 cylinders are well below 200... all 4 cylinders are running around 140-160... Would the cam gear setting contribute to the low compression? or would it be a burnt piston ring or too?

I barely have ~700miles on my newly rebuilt motor. I did it according to this guy's Break In Secrets. I didn't really get a chance to take the motor all the way to redline, only up to 6500 rpm, due to the short gearing on the Y21 and also I ran out of straight roads in the industrial park. I loaded the engine 3 times to be exactly, each time I took the motor up to 6500-6800 rpm.
After 300 miles I changed oil and did a compression test. 200-205-210-195. I have been taking it easy, varying the rpms on the motor. I will let you guys know if the compression numbers gets better when I recheck at the 1000 mile mark.
BTW, the motor setup is:
B16 head, stock ports with Portflow Ti retainers, and ITR inner/outter valvesprings
ITR intake manifold
99 Si TB
JDM EG6 intake with K&N drop in
GSR block with 82mm JE pistons 11.7-11.8CR
Eagle rods
stock headgasket
Y21 tranny
38 psi fuel pressure
test pipe (will replace the entire exhaust as soon as I find a JDM 4-1)
DC 4-2-1
Comptech B-pipe
2.5 crush bent to ES muffler
The car runs ok, need to hook up a wideband and fine tune A/F with VAFC/SAFC. The car actually bogs a bit, as I can hear the motor backfiring every so often. At higher rpm you can really feel it needs more air and fuel.
I ran basically the same setup on my last car and got 179.9 whp/ 127ft-lb. This is all done with 1st gen B16 cams...so I know there's room for more improvement. My ultimate goal is to get to 200whp, then off to the road races!!!
