How Difficult to Replace Cap and Rotor?
Thinking of doing this myself, but I've never done it before and am not sure of what is involved. How difficult is this DIY job?
its easy to replace cap (unscrew in 4 corners).. the rotor will be right behind it.. inspect the cap first, you might not need to replace it, same for rotor, if its not fried, then you might still use it.. if rotor doesn't align.. just turn the car until it does so you can unscrew it
might require some torque to take of the rotor..

Ditto. That screw could be a real PITA if you strip it. Make sure to replace the screw, don't resue the same old one. Worth spending the extar $$ to not have to worry about it stripping
I just remove the distributor altogether. It's pretty easy, just make sure you scribe the top of the distributor and mounting tab so you don't lose your timing, and take note of how the plug wires go into the cap.
It's not bad. When you take the cap off the rotor probably won't line up so the screw is exposed (toward the back of the car). Getting the rotor to line up is a pain. Instead of reassembling the cap & all, just unplug the big plug next to the valve cover and bump the engine until the rotor comes around giving access to the screw that you better not strip.

Before you go and do the job, go to a hardware store and pic up an assorted set of phillips head bits ( the ones with the little teeth) and that stubborn screw will come out very easy if you use the right size phillips.
I first tried months ago and when I was t0ld this from a mechanic that had 20+ yrs, I did the job in 15 min.
