rpm problem........weird!!!
my rpm is dead !!
but i did a lot a things and it still dead!!!
check this out....:
- i tried an other cluster.......doesnt work
- i tried an other distributor......doesnt work
- i passed direct wire from the tach to the distributor and test it......everything is ok but still no rpm!
- i tried an other ecu and connector.....doesnt work!
- i 've check the diagram(i mean the electronics connector behind it) on the cluster.....everything is ok !!
so......this is my problem, many people had look at it but.....no answer yet!!
this is realy weird!!
if someone have an answer for me.....it would be nice!!!
thx a lot!
and sorry because I KNOW that i did a lot of mistakes here!!!hahha(just could be funnier for you!!!)lolll

I know you have checked just about everything, but double check all grounds in the engine bay to make sure they are tight, like the one on the thermostat housing, the one that is near the driver side headlight thet has a white case with lots of black w/white dotted lines on it going to it. that's about all I can think of right now, all the tach needs to work is 12+ volts, ground and an input signal, and it sounds like you've double and tripple checked the input, so it's down to power and ground for it, hope this helps.
thx .....ill check this......but i tought that if i passed i direct wire outside of the car from the tach to the distributor....it could be ok!
ill give news about that!
thx

wow, this is interesting....what wire were you running to the tach from the distributor? If I remember right I thought it was a blue wire, but I'm not sure right now. I would begin to believe that there might be a ground problem or 12+ problem that feeds the gauge and the distributor might not be the culprit. try checking for ground and 12+ on the back of the tach with the car on and see what you have and let me know...
all i have is ok! i have 12 v everywhere!! the blue wire is ok too! all my grounds sems to be ok! all pcs are ok(dist. cluster. ecu. wire. connectors. volts. grounds!)
i dont know what else i could do!!
still need help!
thx

I'm still really stumped by this problem now.....I wish I lived closer then I'd just come out and look at it and probably find out what is wrong in about two minutes flat. One more thing you could try, buy a small, cheap aftermarket tachometer and hook that up according to the instructions, and see if that will work. That way you can make sure that it's the wiring in the car somehow and not just the instrument cluster.
i could do that...but.....i already tried 3 differents instrument cluster.....they all works in other crx but not in mine! any of these 3 was working!!
what do you think about that......just come live in montreal!!! loll!

I've been thinking about moving but I love MN too much to move....
hmm, so you've checked all the grounds under the dash to make sure that they are connect right? If you have the wiring diagram and have the time, try running a ground wire, 12V+ and a signal wire to the tach, bypassing all the OEM wiring. If the tach starts working when you do that, one-by-one, start hooking up the OEM wiring again and see when the tach stops working, then you should be able to tell which wire is bad.
I wish I could come out and help you more, I repair electronics and work on cars all the time and love it. It's so frustrating when a fellow car fanatic is having annoying troubles like this.

lol.
i had totally by pass all wire and just putt all new wire on(from tach to dist. ) by outside! even with this new wire......it still doesnt work! theres still 12v+ everywhere, and all is still ok but DAMN....... this will make me crazy!!!!!
weve checked all all all wires (i have the honda manual shop.......very practical!!
) but we still dont understand! alarm pager wiring is ok....ground system is ok....12v and up everywhere!....cluster is ok....dist is ok.....ecu is ok................so fucked up!
anyways......i believe that i will never be able to know why i dont have rpm anymore!
so deseperate!!!!!!!

If just your tach is bouncing, you need to change your ignitor (ignition control unit) or just change the whole distributor.
Bridge: Have you removed any of the wires from the connectors on the back of the instrument cluster? Maybe one accidentally got switched around on you?
and with the bouncing speedometer, thecable may need to be replaced or lubricated.

it bounce but not everytime and its very low bouncing! its really not necessary to change my cable now! but for my cluster.....if i had accidently do something wrong.....it woulnt work with this instrument cluster....but it doesnt work at all......even with now 4 different cluster! and just to be sure that the rear cluster connector was ok and tight in....i ve check all wire by wire directly on the connectors! any idea???
The ignitor is sound advice. It's about 110 bucks from Honda and takes about 20 minutes to install if you are ham fisted with the tools. It is to my understanding that if a bad ignitor is let go too long, it can mess up other things ignition wise.

JoeDaMan: definitly ignitor going bad in your case
Bridge: If you have an aftermarket tachometer lying around, I'd try hooking that up for a temporary solution.

bah....i dont want to putt a tach ! i dont like it! but i would say that i have a shiftlight and the rpm setting is good!!! im not pluged on the blue tach wire....butt directly on pos. of my ecu! but it works! ahhh......anyway.....im used to dont have rpm now!!! i hate that but.....it looks like theres nothing to do!
thx
thx
sorry Bridge, like I said, if I was closer I'd come out and help, but it's about a 16 hour drive for me to get out there...but maybe if you're stil having problems by the next Niagara meet I can help ya then
hahaha!!! good! ill be at niagara next year for sure at 600%!!!!!! but , i hope that my rpm will be ok until this event"!!!! btw....thx a lot for your help !!!i appreciated!
