DOHC valve adjustment ???'s
I was reading in my manual for my car and it says that you have to use a special tool for doing an adjustment on a DOHC for the lock nuts and screw. Now ive done valve adjustments on motorcycles/4 wheelers and i always just used a boxed end wrnech and a screwdriver and tightened/loosened. So my first question is do i need this tool or can i just use a screwdriver/wrench? And my second question, i heard that you HAVE to let your motor cool for a good 3 hours to over night before you do an adjustment...is this true or can i just go right outside and do it? I also heard if you adjust them to have a higher lift it'l squeeze a little more power out of it, so would you ajdust it to a lower # like .17 or .20 for a higher lift? Thanks.

it HAS to be cool to be done correctly.
you can use a box-end wrench and bend it to the shape required with heat from a torch, or you can use a deep socket and a pair of vice grips to hold the socket while wticking a screwdriver thru the socket. I welded a deep socket onto an old wrench and it works but I should have used a VERY deep socket.
adjust to a higher lift? you are only adjusting the gap.... my guess is the lower number in the tolerance range will be a tigher fit and leave less room for slop in the valves movement, but I havent heard any tricks or anything, only to be sure and use stock adjustment specs.
