Default Oh crap I won a turbo.

OK guys, I bid on a Garrett T3 turbocharger on eBay and won at $238. The description of the auction reads:

"THIS IS A GARRETT T3 TURBO THAT IS IN BRANDNEW CONDITION IT STILL HAS THE PAINT TABS ON THE COMPRESSOR WHEEL FROM WHEN IS WAS REBUILT. THE A/R'S ON THIS TURBO ARE .42 AND .48. THE WASTEGATE ACTUATOR HAS BEEN POLISHED TO A MIRROR SHINE IT COMES WITH THE WATER FEED AND RETURN FITTINGS ALSO WITH THE OIL RETURN TUBE. ALSO INCLUDED IS THE O2 HOUSING TO MAKE EXHAUST VERY SIMPLE. THIS TURBO WOULD MAKE A GREAT START TO A GREAT TURBO KIT."

It is a 4-bolt turbo and has an integral wastegate.

Some pictures:

Think I got ripped? How much do these usually go for?

Now I need to read my book Maximum Boost and learn alllll about F/I. Some preliminary questions are... this is for an LS Integra. How much lag will I have? How long until 8 psi boost? That's where I'm going to set my wastegate. I'm going to run on stock internals.

Ben

You should easily have 8psi of boost by 4k rpms. That turbo is pretty small but it'll push 8lbs for ya all day long, good deal too!

not a bad deal, about average, looks great, just be prepared to spend another $900-$1000 before your project is complete, you'll need injectors, manifold, gaskets, intercooler, charge pipes, boost controler, oil lines, (optional water lines), some type of engine management, downpipe, bov, intake pipe and filter, and misc fittings and parts.

a turbo car is an ongoing project.

run with it for a while and when you feel your needs have changed...upgrade.

that turbo is a little bit small for an LS. My very first turbo kit used one of those turbos except I got mine from the junkyard. same specs though. It spools quick and makes a lot of wheel spin but it only put down 203 hp and 190 ft lbs on like 9 psi. It's a little to small.

How can you guys take a guess as to power output without knowing the turbo trim?

That turbo is pretty much perfect for a street car. If you want to be the fastest around, yeah, it's too small no matter what the trim is.

I would bet with any average size T3 you'd get full boost way before 4k rpms. I had a T3/4B on my LS and it was getting 7 PSI at 3500.

couple problems with that turbo.

small, good till around 7k on a dohc, then it will drop boost.
its a chrysler turbo ,the dp will face right into the block so its unusable with out alot of fabricating, and the wastegate flapper is connected right to that dp.so to use it on a honda you would pretty much have to use a external wastegate.it will be very hard to get a flange on a manifold to fit that turbo, becuase its not a standard t3 flange.

id resale it,personaly,i bought one to do the same thing, but ended up selling it because it was too much effort for the amount of power.

are you keeping a/c?
