Need help with what tranny to use with my swap?
I have a 1990 Honda Civic Si Hatchback, and i am doing a swap from my SOHC ZC engine, to a B18A1 out of a 1992 Acura Integra LS. Now i already have the motor lined up and everything, all i need advise on now is a preference of what Transmission to use with it, i do understand i need to use a B series transmission with it... i thought about an S1, but i need something shorter ratio'ed than that... i was thinking more like a J1 or something, however, when you reply, MAKE SURE that the trans you are listing for advise is a Cable Clutch, if i wanted a hydraulic clutch, i would just go with the Y21 tranny, but its cable clutch, so what is you all's advise on what tranny to use?
Ok you could go with a jdm J1 or S1 which both have the same gear ratios. I used to have and S1 and then got a J1 when the first trans let go. The only drawback is the gears are pretty short and it revs pretty high on the highway. 4000 rpm or more at cruising highway speeds. You could use the USDM S1 which has long gears and comes stock with the b18a1.
Or you could make a compromise and use the JDM Y1. The Y1 also sometimes is equipped with an LSD but they are tough to find anymore. This trans also has shorter gears than the US S1 but the lower final drive makes it more tolerable on the highway than the JDM S1 or J1. Finally there is the YS1 trans. It has identical gear ratios to the ITR trans and also sometimes is equipped with a factory LSD. All of the transmissions I have mentioned are cable style.
